Subject Based Banding• Sec 1 students posted to the N(A) and N(T) courses may

be offered EL/Math/Science/MTL at a higher level, based on their PSLE subject grades.

• Students can choose to accept or reject the offer.

• PSLE Eligibility criteria for offering higher level subjects:

MOE Financial Assistance (FAS)

A student is eligible for MOE FAS if shemeets either of the following criteria:

Gross Monthly Household Income

$2,500 or below

OR

Per Capita Income

$625 or below

School Financial Assistance (SMC-FAS)

To assist students who do not qualify for MOE FAS, but are in need of support.

The SMC FAS fund is raised through our annual fund raising as well as donations from our old

girls and well wishers.

Cards (SSCs) for concessionary travel till

end of April 2017. Students can still

purchase the Bus Concession Pass

LEAPS 2.0

LEAPS 2.0 is a framework to recognisesecondary school students’ holistic

development. Students will be recognisedwith levels of attainment in four domains: Leadership, Achievement, Participation,

and Service.

LEAPS 2.0

At the end of the graduating year, students’ co-curricular attainment will be recognisedaccording to Excellent/Good/Fair. The level of attainment will be converted to a bonus point(s) which can be used for admission

to Junior Colleges/ Polytechnics/ Institutes of Education (JC/Poly/ITE).

Subject-based Banding (secondary)

Why OFFER Higher Level Subjects?

Each student is different and possesses different strengths

To help each student find fulfilment in learning and be motivated to excel in what he/she is good at, allowing greater flexibility in subject offering at Lower Secondary will better cater to the strength of each student in different subjects

Upper Secondary students already have the flexibility to take higher level subjects. Taking higher level subjects at Lower Secondary can help students build a stronger foundation for Upper Secondary, should they want to continue with the higher level subjects.

Support for Students

• Students are encouraged to continue with the higher level subject(s) until the end of Secondary 2, regardless of grades achieved, since it takes time for students to adjust to the higher level of rigour.

• The school will continue to provide the necessary scaffolding for SBB students to cope with the respective higher level subject(s).

• The teachers will also conduct bridging classes for students taking higher level subjects after the Sec 1 mid-year or year-end exams.

Post-secondary Educational Progression

(for NT students)

Progression opportunities for Sec 4 N(T)• Sec 4 N(T) students have the following progression opportunities:

• To be eligible, students must satisfy the minimum entry requirements.

• A strong literacy and numeracy foundation would ensure students are better prepared for these progression pathways.

• Therefore, students are encouraged to deepen their knowledge in English, Mathematics and Science.

Nitec Programmes Transfer to Sec 4 N(A)

Posting of applicants to Nitec courses• Posting is based on merit and subject to vacancies in open

competition.–Based on aggregate of the best 4 GCE ‘N’ Level subjects, including

pre-requisite subjects and bonus points (where applicable); and–Met course-specific entry requirements.

• Many Nitec courses require a pass in subjects such as English, Maths and Science – good foundation in these subjects is critical to students performing well in the corresponding Nitec courses.

• Doing well in these subjects in secondary school, especially at the higher level, will position students better to perform well in ITE.
