Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
‘Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of designing or making alterations to a website in such a way that the search engines can find and index the given website with greater ease, resulting in improved rankings” (Visser & Weideman, 2011, p. 7).
History of SEO
Brian Pinkerton – The WebCrawler Inventor “Brian Pinkerton created the
WebCrawler in April 20, 1994 … It was the first of its kind, providing full-text search results”
Danny Sullivan – The Faithful Search Evangelist “Sullivan founded the
Search Engine Watch in 1997, even before Google was founded 1998 as a company. He is also the founding editor of Search Engine Land”
Larry Page and Sergey Brin – The Google Guys “They developed a better system to
determine the relevance of a website using the number of pages and the authority of the pages that link to the original website. It then ranks the pages based on their score. ”
