To whom it may concern,

I would like to recommend Sean Duffy for the position available. Sean worked under my supervision at MakerBot as a quality test technician from May 2014 until April 2015 and was a critical member of the quality test engineering group.

I have always been impressed with Sean’s attitude towards his work and performance on the job. Sean was always very persistent in his desire to understand and document any sort of anomaly in all the testing he was involved in. He was always driving to identify, characterize and repair any problem that he discovered and was not afraid to work independent of being formally assigned a task. Additionally, he was a driving force in improving overall quality of all our products. His efforts manifested themselves in many positive ways and have driven concrete improvements to product reliability. His observations were always well founded, thoughtful, well communicated and he was often was able to find issues that no one else was capable of identifying.

In his time here, Sean grew a lot as a technician and in many ways took on roles that would normally be reserved for an engineer. He ran and modified test scripts in Python for life testing. He learned SolidWorks and used that skill to design test jigs and fixtures for very specific applications. He also evaluated data that was collected along with writing test reports for distribution within the company. Furthermore, he worked with third party labs as part of a conducting root cause analyses. In all cases, I would say that his performance matched that of any engineer and I am very confident that he would thrive in an engineering role if given the opportunity.

Sean was a wonderful person to have around the lab as he was pleasant in all interactions, got along well with co-workers, was an exemplary employee and a great friend. Sean’s departure from MakerBot was 100% the result of a company-wide workforce reduction and I would take Sean back into the lab in a heartbeat if given the chance.

I recommend him for employment without reservation. Please let me know if you need further information.

Sincerely,

Tom Montagliano
