Nominal Voltage Allowable voltage (Volt), thai con be applied to eoch contact continuously and simultaneously.

Test Voltage Voltoge which, under cerloin conditions, a connector con be exposed to without breakdown.

Degree of Protection Potential dirt accumulation of a disconnected connector in a cer toin environment.

Degree of Protection 2 N o permanent conductive dirt accumulation wi ll occur. Temporary conductive dirt accumulation, such 0$ condensation, is possible. Typical for households, of/ices, laboratories and lest lobs.

Degree of Protection 3 Conductive, as well as dry non<onductive dirt accumulation can occur. It can be temporarily conductive due to condensation . Typical for industrial and factory environments.

Additional remarks (pollution levell If connectors being defined for pollution degree 1 and overvoltoge category 1 are applied for other conditions {higher pollution degree and higher overvoltage category) voltages level reduce correspond ingly. But the connectors can be used without any problems at reduced maximum voltages .

Mating cycles Moting cycles are the number o f insertion and extraction cycles a connector can w ithstand before the electr ical or mechanical failure in relationship to the connector 's design speci fication.

Air gop The minimum gop o f air between two conducting surfaces permissible at given vohage.

Creep distance The minimum dimension along the surface o f on insulating material between two conducting surfaces .

p, The PE-Cantoct is a ground contact for security reasons.

Safety Guidelines When Hummel connectors are used for vohages greater tha n 50 Volts with conductive shell components they must be used in accordance wi th the safety regulations DIN VDE Port 410; IEC 60364-4-41. This regulation basically d ictates that the power source should be turned off before mating and unmating connector. This regulotion does not provide protection ogainst electri cal shock w hen mating and unmating connectors in the field.

Application The four indent crimp tool 7.000.900.904 / 7.000.900.907 has been developed For optimal crimping of machined conlads with diameters from 0.08 10 2 .5 mm' (28 through 14 AWG) .

How to Crimp The reference toble indicates the correcllocolor position to be s.elecled and Ihe cr imp depth to be adjusted for Ihe con lOCi 10 be crimped. The contoct is then ins.erled through Ihe access hole of the tool on the opposite side of the locator. The conlod is held in place by closing rhe handles 10 Ihe lirsllack-;n position thus preventing the contoct from foiling oul of the tool and facilitating insertion of the wire into the contoet. Control of Crimp Depth Crimp 1001 odjuslment is done 01 the factory, but with frequent U~, periodic calibration is recommended 10 insure accuracy. This is eosily occomplished with (I 1.Omm 0 wire gouge os follows. A cr imp depth of 1.0 mm is $et by means of the adjusting $Crew ($Cole mark at .. 1 . , $Crew mark at ~O· as shown in the Fig. above) and the tool in the do5ed position. Aher insertion of the gouge, there must be just enough space for moving the gouge inside the entry hole. If the opening is too small or too large to exactly match the gouge, the deviation (+/-) can be checked by the precision selling of the $Crew. Pleo$e contact the foctory in co$e the deviation exceeds the tolerances specified by the contract manufacturer.

Appl ication The four indent crimp 10017.000.900.901 hos been developed For optimal crimping of mochined conlads with diameters from 0.1410 6 .0mm· (26 through 10 AWG).

How to Crimp The reference Iobla indicates Ihe correct locator position 10 be sele<::led and Ihe crimp depth to be adjusted for the contoct to be crimped , The cenloe! is then inserted through the access hole of the 1001 on the opposite side of the locator. The conloet is held in plate by closing the hondles to the first lock-in position thus preventing the con tact from foili ng Qui of the 1001 and focililoling insertion 01 the wire into the conloel. The precision rotchet assures consistenlly accurate crimping every lime by Forcing lhe 1001 to be clo~ a ll the way completing the crimpine cycle before lhe tool can be opened ogain.

Adjustment of Crimp Depth Crimp depth can be adjusted as follows: Turn the adjusting screw clockwise for reducing the crimp depth and counter<lock· wise lor increasing the crimp depth.

Control of Crimp Depth Crimp 1001 adjustment is done at the loctory, but with frequent use, periodic colibration is recommended to insure accuracy. This i$ easily accomplished with a 2.0mm 0 wire gouge as follows . A crimp depth of 2 .0 mm is set by means of Ihe Cldiu~lin9 Krew (Kale mark 0 1 ~ 2~,

screw mork 01 ~o· as shown in the lig. above) and the tool in the dosed position. After inserlion 01 the gouge, there must be just enough space lor moving the gouge inside Ihe enlry hole. II the opening is too small or 100 lorge 10 exactly match the gouge, the deviation {+I-J can be checked by the pl"ecision selling 01 the screw.
