Sealand (Principality of) Currency of Sealand: Sealand has minted coins intermittently since the early 1970s, although as with the Principality's stamps, few details are readily available, and it does not appear that any have been released in recent years. The unit of currency is the Sealand Dollar, which is maintained at parity with the US Dollar. Sealand has been the only new country project that has been the subject of an armed insurrection - and as such is the only new country project that boasts a coin mintage by the rebel government. As far as is known the Principality of Sealand has never produced banknotes. 1972 Princess Joan Sailing Vessel SLC 001 Year: 1972 Metal: .925 silver Condition: Proof Designer: Mint: Mintage: 2000 Diameter: 40.6 mm Denomination: $10 Edge Type: reeded 1975 Princess Joan Sealand Arms SLC 002 Year: 1975 Metal: Silver Condition: Proof Designer: Mint: Mintage: Diameter: mm Denomination: $20 Edge Type: 1977 Princess Joan Sealand Arms SLC 003A Year: 1977 Metal: .925 silver Condition: Proof Designer: Josef Baier Mint: Mintage: 2000 Diameter: 30.2 mm Denomination: $10 Edge Type: reeded Princess Joan Sealand Arms SLC 003B Year: 1977 Metal: .925 silver Condition: Proof Designer: Josef Baier Mint: Mintage: 25 ? 1991 - Rebel Prime Minister Johannes Seiger

Prime Minister Seiger Sealand Arms

SLC 006

Year: 1991Metal: Antiqued silverCondition: ProofDesigner: Serge Huard ?Mint:Mintage:Diameter: 38.6 mmDenomination: $100Edge Type: reeded

The origins of this mintage date to 1978, when Sealand's then Prime Minister,Professor Alexander G Achenbach and several associates abducted Prince Roy'sson, Michael, as part of an attempted armed takeover of Sealand. Prince Roy re-took Sealand in a helicopter-led assault and imprisoned Achenbach for severalweeks. Following his release Achenbach returned to Germany and established an"exile government" which he headed as "Chairman of the Privy Council". In August1979 he retired "due to health reasons", and annointed as his successor his Ministerfor Economic Co-operation - Johannes Seiger. Seiger continues to head the rebelgovernment to the present day with the titles of "Prime Minister and Head of thePrivy Council". This coin is believed to represent, uniquely, a mintage by a rebelgroup within a new country project.
