During normal operation, the compressor pressure and temperature ratio maintain a positive flow to the DGS and avoid contamination and condensation. However, during standstill conditions, this auto-buffering is not possible and the DGS is at risk from contamination especially by heavy hydrocarbon condensate. To mitigate this risk, depressurizing the compressor after trip is recommended, but flaring of process gas impacts revenues and the environment. The patented Seal Gas BoosterSystem assures a positive flow ofclean, dry seal gas to the DGS duringa compressor shutdown. Heavy HC Seal Gas Booster Systems

can also be equipped with an electric heater to prevent expansionof the gas within the seals fromcreating a condensation condition.

The Seal Gas Booster System consistsof a reciprocating pump driven by twoinstrument air actuated pistons. Thebooster has a unique design in whichthe piston is moved by an externalmagnetic field which eliminates thetraditional rod or other mechanicallink to the driver and thus creates asealless compressor design. Thissimple and rugged design includes acylinder made of non-magneticstainless steel capped with twospecial flanges. Two pneumaticpistons move a taurus-shapedpermanent high-efficiency magnet.The Seal Gas Booster System providesa positive delta pressure (1Bar) whichcreates a barrier to protect thecompressor dry gas seal frompotentially damaging DGS duringshutdown and start up operations. The booster is provided with a purgedstainless steel enclosure with astainless steel pneumatic circuit andis installed on a skid. This enclosureprotects the booster from adverseenvironment conditions such as highhumidity, sandstorms, etc.
