FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK 1st June, 2017

Firstly I would like to thank all of the parents, grandparents and friends who came to the school on Monday to support our Fun Run. The children certainly enjoyed your attendance and it is events such as this that, if well attended, strengthen the sense of community that so many people tell me is one of the things they most like about our school. Please see the collage of photos of this event later in this newsletter. Children have until next Monday to collect sponsors and sponsorship money. If you have registered on-line there is nothing more you need to do other than to choose the prize. For those who have sponsors but have not registered, please collect your sponsor’s money and return to school on Monday of next week. We will then help you select your prize and send that in.

On Tuesday morning we had both the Premier of Victoria, the Honourable Daniel Andrews and the Minister For Education, the Honourable James Merlino visit the school along with a local member Sonya Kilkenny and a large entourage of media, advisers and security. The visit was to celebrate the schools’ breakfast program across the state which has been a priority for this government over the past two years in their partnership with Foodbank. Local member Sonya Kilkenny is the government’s ambassador for the program and it was she who chose Seaford Primary as the place for the Minister and Premier to recognise the importance of the breakfast club in schools.

Our program commenced in 2004 and has continued every school day since that time and for all of that time it has run as a free service through the generosity of a large number of sponsors, including the Seaford Hot Bread shop, Southern Milk Supplies in Somerville, Seaford RSL, Foodbank Victoria, MA Centre Australia Carrum Downs, Fresh Warehouse Direct in Seaford and Secondbite Carrum Downs. From its inception the program has been run by Michael W, our Primary Welfare Officer, with the support of a number of other staff on the days that Michael doesn’t work.

School Captains, Sienna and Lachlan did the meet and greet of our dignitaries and escorted them to the Community Room, where they engaged with our students at breakfast, with Michael W, who runs the program and with other staff and parents in attendance, before holding a media conference in the library. Sienna and Lachlan were great ambassadors for our school.

SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT:

Seaford Primary School is a friendly, caring community school that aims to achieve excellence, nurture

individuality, challenge and understand every child, in an environment that provides fairness and balance.

Carrying on from the last two weeks where we highlighted the first two school values of Acceptance and Respon-sibility, I would like to take some time to write about value 3- RESPECT. All our values work together and there is none that is more important than the other. Respect simply means to have a high opinion of something to the point that it is considered to be important. The most important respect that we can have is respect for ourselves as it is logical that if we do not have self respect, then it is very difficult to respect anything else. Respect is demonstrated in the way we interact with others – the way we talk to people, the way we talk about them and in looking after others and the environment. Respect is also shown in going out of our way to support others, partic-ularly in times of need. At all times we expect our students, staff and parents to have respectful relationships with each other and the best way to do that is to act as exemplary role models for our children. Children watch and copy those they hold in high regard, so we all have a responsibility to model respect at all times. Regards Michael

LIGHTHOUSE LEADERSHIP FUNDRAISER

On the 6th of June we are running a fundraiser for the Cathy Freeman Foundation.

Their vision is to give Indigenous and Non-Indigenous children the same education and opportunities

as us.

We are having a dress in RED DAY to raise funds for this Foundation (STOMP OUT THE GAP).

We would like everyone to dress in red and donate a GOLD COIN.

We have special stickers for everyone who participates. Our aim is to raise $150.00.
