Passage to the Far EastAsia, an exotic mix of cultures, languages and food, is a seafarer’s dream. With marine access to virtually every country in the region, there can be no better way to explore the world’s largest and most populous continent.

In Asia you will find a little bit of everything: the flurry of trading in busy commercial centers sitting cozily beside the serenity of temple life; the gentle buzz of the rainforest within touching distance of lazy, white sandy beaches. The continent defies categorization and demands to be explored.

From October 2013 through April 2014, SEADREAM II will explore new ground as she visits Asia’s most striking locations, from the hustle and bustle of international shopping havens Hong Kong and Singapore, to the undisturbed charm and tranquility of Myanmar and New Guinea.

Embarking on her journey from the historic capital of Athens, Greece, SEADREAM II will follow the route charted by early explorers as she makes her way to Mumbai, India and onward to Singapore. SEADREAM has arranged an Egyptologist and other guest lecturers to enhance this unique passage. Naturally, the voyage includes transiting the majestic and peaceful Suez Canal. Guests may take the opportunity to visit the sights of Egypt during exclusive Land Adventures. Highlights include the Giza Pyramids & Sphinx, Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, the temples of Luxor and Karnak and much more. The voyage continues to Safaga, Djibouti and Mumbai (Bombay), as SEADREAM II continues her passage to Singapore and the Far East.

SEADREAM’S Asia has a total of 18 unique voyages to discover the charms of the Asian people that have left ocean travelers spellbound by their delights over hundreds of years. SEADREAMERS will be recalling routes used by the early spice traders and will now be able to experience the same awe and wonder at some of the world’s most beautiful surroundings.

A diverse continent, SEADREAM’S Asian escapade will take in India and China, the world’s two most populated countries, both with strong cultures familiar to all. But Asia is a cultural hot-bed with every stop on SEADREAM’S voyage introducing new sights, tastes and sounds, as visits to Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, East Timor, Australia, Indonesia, New Guinea, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Hong Kong will demonstrate. Whether you crave the peace and tranquility of undiscovered beaches and islands, or the exhilarating energy of Asia’s buzzing towns and cities, SEADREAM’s Asia is sure to find a place where you will feel right at home.

“… we were again thrilled and enjoyed the same high as was the case in both previous sails.”

Peter & Liz Culnane, Brisbane, Australia

Yangon, Myanmar

Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

First-time visitors are often in awe at the sight of eerie saffron-robed Buddhist monks who seem to float along city streets begging alms for their morning meal. Essential to Myanmar society, they are everywhere. Their lives are governed by austere rules built around three core philosophical gems: ‘I take refuge in the Dhamma (Buddhist teachings); I take refuge in the Buddha; I take refuge in Sangha (Buddha’s disciples).’

Yangon and its high-topped monuments is an enchanting place where the air is charged with hope. The magnificent Shwe Dagon Paya is a site to behold.

SEADREAM has arranged several exclusive Land Adventures to explore Ancient Bagan, Mandalay and Inle Lake.

Foreign interests have long coveted Vietnam, the fertile eastern crescent of the squat Southeast Asian peninsula. The (Chinese) Funan Kingdom controlled the Mekong River Delta from the 2nd to the 7th centuries and Vietnam was part of the Khmer Chenla Kingdom thereafter. By 1200AD, Saigon, established at a strategic bend in the Sài Gòn River, was an important port for the powerful (Cambodian) Angkor Kingdom. Kublai Khan attacked the thriving community in 1284, and later, repeated Chinese invasions plagued the smaller kingdom until the 19th century.

SEADREAM Land Adventures will explore the Mekong River Delta and the fascinating city of Ho Chi Minh – still known as Saigon to many.

Hong Kong, ChinaYou may be surprised to learn the amazing powerhouse of human possibility known as Hong Kong was founded on opium trade. Another surprise is its size. Most people think the territory includes only Hong Kong Island and a small portion of the Kowloon peninsula, but Cheung Chau, Lantau, and Lamma – and more than 266 other islands are also included. For its early history, Hong Kong was only a temporary home for nomadic peoples, but it prospered with expanding trade during the Chinese Imperial period.

SEADREAM Land Adventure participants can learn the art of Tai Chi and explore the secrets of this remarkable city-state.

Komodo Island is best known for its indigenous Komodo Dragons – considered the last of their kind. Known locally as ora, the giant monitor lizards can grow to more than 9 ft/2.75 m and 300 lbs/136 kg. All monitor lizards, so named for their natural association (monitor in the sense of ‘detection’) with the presence of crocodiles, are big animals. More important, however, Komodo Dragon jaws are powerful and both teeth and talons are as sharp as razor blades. Their saliva hosts a deadly bacterium that quickly disables prey.

SEADREAM guests will have the unique opportunity to meet Komodo Dragons accompanied by a Park Ranger.

Macau ,China

Mumbai, India

É verdade! Portuguese is spoken in China! Bacalhau is as infused in local culture as Confucianism and the Party. Early residents sought refuge from invading Mongol tribes (c. 13th century), but colonial-era Portuguese colonists set up a mini trading empire at the port. Macau name comes from A-Ma – the name of the natural inlet (‘A-Ma Gao’ in the local dialect). Enjoy a walk in the historic core – an inscribed UNESCO World Heritage site. Then, if you feel lucky, follow the neon lights – the city’s 33 casinos are open all night!

Join a SEADREAM Land Adventure to explore the hybrid society. Begin by visiting the airy A-Ma Temple, and then try a spin with lady luck.

Built across a series of seven islands (Colaba, Mazagaon, Old Woman’s Island, Wadala, Mahim, Parel, and Matunga-Sion) that now form the city’s main districts, Mumbai is the glamour capital of India. The early residents were Koli fishermen and the community was part of the Ashoka Kingdom. An extended land reclamation program eventually linked the archipelago into a peninsula.

The region passed through the hands of several Hindi rulers until 1343, when Gujerat Muslims took possession. They ruled for two centuries until Portuguese forces invaded, but only their Mahim Mosque remains.

The SEADREAM Land Adventure to Elephanta Island departs from the iconic Gateway of India. If you are shopping-deprived, join us on a market tour to explore Mumbai at its colorful best.

Phuket, ThailandRoughly the size of Singapore, Phuket is widely known for its fine resorts, but it also showcases traditional Thai culture and a spectacular natural interior. Sheer limestone crags thrust from scenic Phang Nga Bay off the island’s northern tip, creating a peaceful refuge from ‘it all.’ For another kind of Thai serenity, visit South Phuket’s Wat Chalong. Its Grand Pagoda, one of the island’s most revered sites, preserves a fragment of Lord Buddha’s bone. After touring, curl up on a quiet section of Ao Patong (Patong Beach), on the southwestern shore.

Join your fellow SEADREAMER’S for a Phang Nga cruise or find your inner James Bond aboard … an elephant! The yacht has also arranged several other Land Adventure possibilities including an excursion to one of the island’s world-class golf resorts.

The first Cambodian Kingdom represented the oldest of several Indian-influenced states that once thrived in the region. Khmers from central Chenla overcame Funan in the mid-sixth century, and marrying their new subjects, emerged as the Khmer Empire. Their legacy is a remarkable treasure chest, most famously displayed at Angkor Wat near Siem Reap, but Sihanoukville, named to honor King Sihanouk, is not without its own prizes. White sand beaches ring the shores and although Sihanouk Mountain ‘towers’ only to 400 ft/122 m, the view from its Wat Leu is worth the climb.

SEADREAM guests can explore the port and surroundings or join us on a full day journey to the Cambodian capital or iconic Angkor Wat.

Singapore

Bali, Indonesia

Lee Kuan Yew, first and longest reigning Prime Minister of Singapore, stepped down in 1990. Known as ‘father of Singapore,’ Mr. Lee’s guidance unquestionably created an economic marvel and model safe society out of a chaotic post-war, post-colonial state. The rules are tough, but clear. Jaywalkers are fined on the spot. Drop litter – and you pay (smokers beware!). Explore the city-state’s impressive modernity and tradition in its architecture. I.M. Pei’s striking Gateway and Moshe Safdie’s Marin Bay Sands point the way to the future, but don’t miss the handsome Old Parliament House.

SEADREAM Land Adventure participants follow the colonial footsteps of Sir Stamford Raffles while becoming friendly with one of the world’s most amazing cities.

The aroma of fragrant spice leads you to Bali’s shores. The tiny clove-scented island off Java’s southeastern tip is steeped in tradition, and unique Balinese Hindu-animist faith is on full display. Although Besakih is the mother shrine (Ulun Danu, Tanah Lot and Goa Lawah are also notable), even the island’s tiniest villages have at least one temple. But Bali displays a second nature – especially in the south around the areas of Kuta Beach and Nusa Dua. Here, visitors worship another spirit – the Goddess who presides over a delightful land of luxurious decadence.

SEADREAM is offering several active Land Adventures at Benoa. Enjoy a challenging round of golf, take a painting lesson or learn some exciting new cooking techniques from a master chef.

Colombo, Sri Lanka Sri Lanka (sree LAHN ka) wears an exotic veil decorated with elephants, spice, and precious gemstones. Some believe Adam’s Peak to be the very spot upon which Adam first trod after being cast down from heaven. After all, his footprint – or is it Buddha’s footprint? – is embedded in the summit. A modern enigma, Sri Lankan history is so long, it begins in legend. An important center of Theravada Buddhism, the island is home to the remarkable Temple of the Tooth at Kandy.

SEADREAM offers a full day excursion to the Pinnawela Elephant Reserve, an exploration of Colombo and Galle, as well as a visit to Kandy.

Lofty Atauro Island, rising from the misty sea, is a handsome natural sentry for the Port of Dili. Cave paintings, pottery shards, and stone relics suggest people have lived in the region for at least 4,000 years. But the earliest written reference to the island comes from a 13th-century Chinese navigational logbook. The sailor probably smelled sweet sandalwood long before he saw land. Formerly occupied by Indonesian troops, the young nation of Timor L’este won independence in May 2002. Portuguese influence is on full display, beginning with the Rio-esque Cristo Redentor statue on a hill near the capital.

SEADREAM offers a historical tour, a drive around the island, and a scuba diving excursion for those with a diving certification.
