NEW LUNCHTIME SERIES: Of particular interest is a new lunchtime series entitled The Seaborn Conversations: Talking about Theatre… The details are contained in an enclosed invitation. These Conversations will provide us with opportunities to hear interesting talks and share conversations with special guests and theatre-loving Friends as well as partake of refreshments and an optional tour around our new premises. We are delighted that Lee Lewis and Penny Cook will be joining us on Monday 14 th August and Nancye Hayes on 11 th September. As with many of our events, places are limited, so I urge you to book without delay. GRANTS: Since our last Newsletter, the Foundation has awarded another round of generous grants to individuals and performing arts organisations to assist financially in the development of their work. These include independent, community-focussed and youth groups as well as innovative projects and, in line with Dr Seaborn’s wishes, creative initiatives emanating from more mainstream theatre groups as well. PERFORMING ARTS COLLECTION: Our archivist Neil Pollock with the assistance of volunteers has continued his wonderful work re-organising, cataloguing and rationalising our Performing Arts Collection. Visitors continue to congratulate us on our decision to retain and house this valuable Collection and for our dedicated efforts to strive to make our resources available for research and education. SHOWS FOR CHILDREN: As you will recall, part of our Collection contains an amazing array of marionettes and puppets. Maddy Slabacu has been our expert consultant. Her Horizon Theatre Company for Children and Youth is holding performances at 11am and 1pm on Sunday 23 rd July at Wiley Park (see this Newsletter) and she hopes to organise a Punch and Judy-style performance at our Foundation in a few weeks time. Please let us know if you are interested in receiving an invitation. Your young friends, children and grandchildren are very welcome as are the young at heart. THEATRE PARTIES: Our theatre parties are always enjoyable and our budget-priced film and light lunch mornings have proved to be a great success too. Next year the Ensemble Theatre celebrates its 60 th Anniversary and our next theatre party will be to its current production of the award-winning comedy Neville’s Island starring the ‘Chaser Boys’ of TV fame. An optional lunch with our Friends will follow at Bayly’s Restaurant. Bell Shakespeare will be presenting The Merchant of Venice at the Opera House later this year and we are planning another theatre party with opportunities to meet for refreshments beforehand and dinner afterwards. Dates, times and booking details are included in this Newsletter. Please read through the theatrical treats Carol has described for us in this Newsletter and consider bringing friends and family. However, the excellent seats Carol obtains for us are often in short supply so it’s wise to book early to secure your seats. SPECIAL THANKS: Our work assisting the performing arts is greatly enhanced by the wonderful support of our Friends. Some give their time and others give much-needed financial support. Our grateful thanks to you all. VALE ANN (Dickie) BROOKS: We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs. Ann Brooks, a longtime Friend and supporter of the Foundation. We will miss her warm smile and gentle, encouraging presence at our functions. Our website contains a number of delightful photos of Ann and her son Dr Bill Brooks at our 30 th Anniversary Dinner last year. In 2017, Horizon Theatre will perform the highly acclaimed Imaginariam show at their

premises in Wiley Park. The show incorporates puppetry, storytelling, physical theatre and acting. The story combines characters from different fairy tales, taking audiences on a

journey in search of their imagination, humanity and kindness. It was a triumphant

success when it was performed in 2016 at the European International Theatre Festival,

Four city dwelling business men set out on a team-building weekend only to become

trapped on an island in the wilds of Tasmania. Team leader Neville tries to stay positive,

acerbic manager Gordon turns on his companions, Roy finds comfort in his recent religious epiphany, while Angus…well, Angus has brought the latest equipment but doesn’t have a clue what to do with it. As day turns to

cold, cold night, the men discover hidden vulnerabilities and unexpected strengths as

they battle the elements and each other. Tim Firth’s wicked comedy is a masterful look

at men trying to make the best of a bad situation while they remain, unfortunately

….men.
