Problems Encountered during the 8th Batch
None 40% (22)
Communication Issues 24% (14)
• There's some form that have to be shared by the receiving university before we sending the students to go to their university but it turn out we didn't receive it.• Commitment of the first partner university assigned to us.• The communication with the host university faces some challenges particularly those from the Philippines regarding the SSP visa payment, declaration of immigration, and a sudden notice to stay one night in the airport due to an advance schedule of airport shuttle provided by the host university. The other problem is that UNESA did not receive any inbound students as those dispatched by partnet universities were not eligible in terms of English language skills.• We receive less than we proposed.• The difference of education system and curriculum makes the students feel anxious. We hope that SEAMEO will ask both the sending university and receiving university to send a curriculum/syllabus before the exchange program departure. So that, the students will prepare the lesson plan well.• The number of student mapped by the SEAMEO is far less than the actual student we sent, so we have to find receiving universities by our self.

Problems Encountered during the 8th Batch
Communication Issues 24% (14)
•Some schools are requiring socio - cultural visa which is as far as we know is not a part of the agreement.• As usual, the only one problem was data like: copy passport and airline ticket of students from partner university were sent late.• The problem was that I was supposed to assign to a certain University before and we had prepared everything. But suddenly the University moved the students to other programmes without notifying us. Thankfully SEAMEO helped us to get another University so we managed to still have 2 students coming to us.• Some coordinators from university partners are very slow response, they can only be reached by email and it took weeks for their reply.• One of the university in Vietnam postpone the participation after having agreed to accept a number of students. So, this is more to do with the commitment to join in the program.• The number of sending and receiving is not the same. We send more than we receive. Also, some students that we sent to BSU could not meet the requirement of minimum 20 hours for teaching assistant and teaching time because there are many holidays.• The only problem is that the participating university is not publicly updated, so I cannot see what university has joined, also their field of study.• It will be much better if the students could know what subjects they had to teach before leaving the country

Immigration Issues 7% (4)
• It happened again on this batch, the students from the sending university have problem related to the immigration, so their program was delayed, and it impact our preparation.• One of the students missed the date of the last day of stay in Thailand, her on air visa is 12 September 2019, but she booked the flight on 13 September and she didn't apply Ed visa as suggested.• The Letter of Acceptance of our students did not have the dates of the exchange program activity, and there was no program of activities attached to it. Hence, it was not honored by the Immigration Officer. So we suggest that the dates of the exchange program agreed upon by partner universities be indicated in the LOA and that the program of activities should also be attached. We are very grateful though that our partner universities were very accommodating and helpful in resolving our concerns. Thank you so much UNSRI and UMK.• Many uncertainty in the Philippines case, not necessarily arose from partner university, but several new regulation from Philippines authority that need to be communicated well ahead.

Orientation 5% (3)
• Students should have got more orientation (pre-departure) from the sending university so students will know the main objective of this project, and they do not expect too much in their place to have the teaching practicum.• Orientation of students from coordinators should be intensified especially with the new environment and culture the students are in.• Some students don't quite understand clearly about what they need to do, especially on the 4th week.

Timing 4% (2)
• The starting date for the teaching practicum for partner university is too late , because my student miss the class about 1 month.• The duration for practicing was close to the end of annual budget, so it was kind of rush to conduct the project, would it be possible to move it earlier during the year?
Budget Issues 4% (2)
• Budget for dorm.• Budget problems.
Language Issues 4% (2)
• My biggest problem lies in language, the average Vietnamese person is not accustomed to using English in their daily lives.• It's not big issue; the students can't speak English well. Fortunately, the students and the teachers can understand and overcome the problems well.

• Accommodation for students who came early.
Insurance 2% (1)
• Some of student don't have insurance when they are in Thailand.
Cost of Study Permit 2% (1)
• The student study permit for incoming students in the Philippines. Our receiving universities are questioning us about the payment.
Medical Issues 2% (1)
• Medical Status/Issues.
Attitude of Students 2% (1)
• Some students have no respect for the culture and they do not obey or listen the warning.
Environmental Issues 2% (1)
• We have some force majeure due to haze, but we manage to get through and get the visiting students complete their practicum.

Coordination (11)
• I would like to partly choose University to exchange with us.• We suggest to provide MoU, in some other fields of study programs.• I hope the coordinators are still easy to contact and reach.• Need to have other country to join the project not from the same university.• Please look for a school that is accustomed to using international language (English).• Please give us also partner universities from other ASEAN countries, not only Indonesia. • Include in-service teacher exchange, they could collaborate.• The announcement of practicum locations has to be on the date scheduled. Then, the rules to discuss curriculum with partner university prior to departure should be confirmed by SEAMEO.• Please accommodate/facilitate student placement, for all participating students.• The option of the dates given to the universities by SEAMEO as to when to start and end the program was very convenient to us; hence, we suggest that this practice will be carried out in the next batches.• To simplify the documents, requirements and assessment for the students. These all often confused me. Too many.

Receiving and Sending Students (10)
• The number of sending and receiving students should be balanced.• Students are determined and love to learn.• Students must have good English language proficiency.• The interview with the students to receive is not sufficient to gauge their proficiency in English therefore, in addition to the interview, the sending university should certify the level of English language proficiency of their students for purposes of assigning the students with the appropriate subject and grade level to teach.• In addition to the interview, the sending university should certify their students' level of English proficiency for purposes of assigning the appropriate subject and grade level to teach.• The coming students are advised to be from various study programs, not only math education.• There is a need to improve students' English language skills.• It is better for receiving university to send the student at a level of school as proposed by sending university.• We hope if we send 10 students, we also can receive 10 students too. It's out of our expectation; we just received only 2 students. We hope next batch, we get many more students.• To give justice to the term exchange students, it would be great if sending school receives students from receiving school and vice versa.

Communication (7)
• Constant communication from host university to sending university.• Other universities are requiring tokens/plaques as an exchange presents.• For us to discuss what can be done re the SSP of receiving students in the Philippines.• Give the plaque of recognition for Student Teaching Supervisor and receiving school.• The project is great and it makes us closer to each other.• Partner university should provide a short survival guidance for the students, especially related to international bank, food, weather, accepted manners (etc). Please ensure that all coordinators provide their WhatsApp/ Line/ Messenger for faster coordination.• All sending universities must do enough orientation for students.

Insurance and Visa (6)
• To find the way about how to make easier for student to enter in particular country (the student permit) especially for inbound student to Philippines, where students have to pay a lot of money. To inform student the average cost daily needs (ie. foods, cost of internet connection for a month), so that students know how much money they have to prepare or bring to abroad based upon the country.• Participating students should be required to have a travel insurance (that includes medical insurance) and submit/send a scanned copy of the insurance policy to the coordinator of the receiving university before departure from their home country.• Participating students must secure insurance with international coverage. Likewise, may I suggest to send the invitation for the 8th evaluation meeting soonest for institutional processing. • Related to visa or student's permit, it must be organized from the beginning and informed clearly and must be the same among the universities in one country.• Provide other schools for the checklist requirements for SSP and visa application so that all participating schools are aware on the documents to prepare SEAMEO should initiate to have close coordination with the Bureau of Immigration, different embassy and CHED.• The requirement to have visa should be implemented by all universities as it is stated in national regulation. Playing foul by pretending that it is not necessary will bring disadvantages for the students and the university, because it is only a matter of time that the immigration office will take a decisive step.

Schedule Revising (3)
• Need to rearrange the schedule for the teaching practicum in the future which suit to the time for the new semester in university. The students need to have more chance in teaching at school, because some universities do not give enough time in teaching practicum.• The time for teaching practice should be in between late July up to September.• If it can be add for more than 30 days, it will give more experiences for students.
Transparency in cost (3)
• The sending university (of Philippine partner institutions) should clearly state if their students are paying the special study permit in full or not) participating students should be required to have a travel insurance (that includes medical insurance) and submit/send a scanned copy of the insurance policy to the coordinator of the receiving university before departure from their home country.• The fee entrance should be clear mentioned when the students depart for their practicum especially in Philippine and Vietnam.• I hope the confusion between paying or waiving SSP visa fee won't happen anymore by providing comprehensive information to the sending university on the aforementioned subject early. Also, sending universities must guarantee that their students are eligible to join the program so that the host university won't experience zero participants for the upcoming batch.
