Our journey begins in Portugal’s dazzling capital city of Lisbon, where wonderful golf and tours of Lisbon’s architectural and historic marvels await.

Golfers play this Arthur Hills design, which regularly ranks as Portugal’s top course, is ranked in the top 100 courses in the world, and annually hosts the Portuguese Open. The course is intended to maximize exposure to three distinct landscapes: an umbrella pine tree forest, dunesland and open coastal transition areas. Views of the Atlantic Ocean and nearby Sintra are visible from almost every hole.

Take a panoramic journey through Lisbon, sampling port wine and being serenaded by a Portuguese guitar player. Enjoy views of the Alfama and Castelo Quarters overlooking the Tagus River, then tour downtown Lisbon, the magnificent Comércio Square and the charms of the São Bento and Chiado districts. Continue to Rossio Square, considered the heart of Lisbon’s downtown. View the statue of Pombal, the man who rebuilt the city after the earthquake of 1755, and Liberty Avenue—Lisbon’s answer to Piccadilly. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, Montecastillo has hosted many of the European Tour’s most prestigious events, including the Volvo Masters. The rolling hills of the Andalucian countryside provide the ideal terrain for golf.

From the port of Cádiz, our tour heads to Seville. We visit La Giralda, a Moorish tower with a Christian super-structure; the Alcázar, a Moorish palace rich in medieval legends; and Seville Cathedral, third largest cathedral in the world and final resting place of Christopher Columbus. Golf: real Club valderraMa

Regarded as the “Augusta National of Europe,” Valderrama has consistently been ranked in the top 5 courses in Europe and is also ranked among the world’s top 100 courses. An abundance of cork, oak and olive trees give each of Valderrama’s holes a distinct shape and look. The playing conditions are impeccable and the setting is bucolic. Site of the 1997 Ryder Cup and regular host of the Andalucía Masters, Valderrama regularly receives the highest praise from the world’s finest golfers.

Today, we have the opportunity to visit one of the most famous geological silhouettes in the world, Gibraltar. The view from “The Rock” provides a spectacular panorama of North Africa, the Costa del Sol and the Mediterranean Sea. Touring passengers will also delight in a special visit to St. Michael’s Cave and the Nature Reserve to see Gibraltar’s most famous inhabitants, the Barbary Apes.

Today’s tour begins with a panoramic exploration of this lively city’s cultural and historic treasures. We stop to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site La Lonja de la Seda, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, and the Valencia Cathedral, which holds an agate cup claimed to be the Holy Grail. Golf: CaMpo de Golf el Saler

For the traditionalist, El Saler is Spain’s best course, and is considered Javier Arana’s greatest work. Half the holes work their way through lush pine forests and the rest is true open links land, blending in with mountainous dunes close to the sea.

Before heading to the Valencia Club Cocina Cooking School to learn the methods of preparing an authentic Spanish meal, our Spanish chef will first take us to the Central Market to purchase the ingredients for today’s culinary experience. Though the club was established in 1954, the current site of Royal El Prat dates to the late 1990’s when Greg Norman designed and built this 45-hole complex. With large greens, wide and sometimes plunging fairways, the courses were built to accommodate international competitions. Consistently ranked among Spain’s top courses, and Europe’s top 100, El Prat will delight and challenge.

Montserrat is a rugged mountain on the outskirts of Barcelona, where we will visit one of the most popular pilgrimage destinations in Spain, Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey.
