The Digital Earth Vision
I believe we need a ‘ Digital Earth’, a multi-resolution, three-dimensional representation of the planet, into which we can embed vast quantities of geo-referenced data.
a ‘collaboratory’ for research scientists seeking to understand the complex interaction between humanity and our environment.
a ‘user interface’ -- a browsable, 3-D version of the planet available at various levels of resolution, a rapidly growing universe of networked geospatial information, and the mechanisms for integrating and displaying information from multiple sources.

SDGs Mapping Proposal
Goal
Create coverage of the SDGs from Digital
Earth Perspective. To provide UN
Statistics Division and the UN Sustainable
Development community with the best
methods and approaches to enhance the
use of SDGs indicators by member
countries.

Leraning to Think Spatially(NRC)
Introduction
The Digital Earth Era defines the amalgamation of Earth Observation,
spatial information, GIS, geoinformatics, along with the rising phenomena
of citizen science and social media engagement on the interconnected
global ICT web. The application of spatially-enabled technology and
information resources for measuring and tracking the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) offers profound advantages to the world
community and decision makers.
A comprehensive examination of the potential and benefits for applying
Digital Earth technology for SDGs warrants serious consideration by the
leading governments, NGOs, industries, and academic leaders. To arrive
at a considered understanding and develop consensus for best
collaborative efforts towards this goal, it is proposed that a series of
workshops be conducted to provide decision makers with timely and
salient information on Sustainable Development issues. 34
Proposal for Action
Workshop for Best Approaches to Map, Monitor, and Model
the SDGs and Indicators on Digital Earth platforms. Results
from the Workshop will provide best methods and approaches
for the UN Statistics Division and the Inter-agency and Expert
Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators to
consider in promoting and supporting enhancements to the
SDGs indicator program of action.
Proposed Leading Collaborators
ISDE, ESCAP (Department of Economic and Social Affairs, UN Statistic Division), Future Earth, Inter-agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs), AIT, World Bank, ADB, Earth Institute, Ciesin, Griffith University, etc.
