UTILITY STRUCTURES

The provisions of BART Facilities Standards, Standard Specifications, Release R2.1, dated October 2009, Section 33 05 16, Utility Structures, shall apply to the Work, except as modified herein.

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SECTION INCLUDES

After Article 1.01A, Excavation and Backfill, renumber Articles 1.01A, 1.01B, and 1.01C to 1.01B, 1.01C, and 1.01D respectively.

1.02 RELATED SECTIONS

Delete Articles 1.02B and 1.02C and substitute the following:

B. Section 33 05 28, Trenching and Backfilling for Utilities, including Imported Backfill with or without AC paving.

C. Section 03 61 11. Non-Shrink Grout.

1.03 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

In Articles 2.01B.1 and 2.02D, delete the words "Table 03305-A" and substitute therefor the words "Table 03 05 15-A".

Add the following requirement:

2.06 MATERIALS:

A: All materials used in utility structures within the jurisdiction of the City of San Jose shall comply with the requirements of Section 1207, "Pipe and Structures", of the City of San Jose Standard Specifications and Details.

All materials used in utility structures within the jurisdiction of the City of Milpitas shall comply with City of Milpitas Standard Specifications for Roadway and Storm Sewer-Improvements and Standard Specifications for Sanitary Sewers.

A. For Pprecast Gconcrete Vvaults for access nozzles, e^air valves and insulating joint vaults on 42" and 66" water line, use structural concrete in accordance with ASTM C94.

B. Precast concrete vaults shall meet the applicable requirements of ASTM C857 and ASTM C858.

C. Vault ladders and pulling eyes shall conform to Article 2.04, Miscellaneous Metal, of this Technical Specification. Access hatches for insulating joint vaults shall conform to Article 2.03. Metal Covers. Grates and Inlets, of this Technical Specification.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 INSTALLATION

Add the following Article 3.01F-and-G:

¥-.—Utility structures within the jurisdiction of the City of San Jose shall be installed in accordance with Section 1207, "Pipe and Structures" and Section 1305 "Pipeline Structures", of the City of San Jose Standard Specifications and Details.

G. Utility structures within the jurisdiction of the City of Milpitas shall bo installed in accordance with City of Milpitas Standard Specifications for Roadway and Storm Sewer Improvements and Standard Specifications for Sanitary Sewers.

H F - For Pprecast Gconcrete Vvaults for access nozzles, e^air valves and insulating joint vaults on 42" and 66" water line: At locations shown on drawings, furnish and install precast concrete vaults.

1. At locations shown on Drawings, furnish and install precast concrete vaults in accordance with ASTM C891.

2. Vaults to be of size indicated on ^Drawings and as manufactured by Quickset Concrete Products Corporation. 1901 Isabel Avenue. Livermore CA 94550; Utility Vault Company. Post Office Box 72701dcastle Precast. 3786 Valley Avenue. Pleasanton, CA 94566; Forni Corporation. 3600 Depot Road. Havward. CA 94545; Hanson Concrete Products. Inc.. 1 Hanson Court. Milpitas. CA 95035. or equal. Vaults shall be designed to withstand HS-20 loading, lateral earth loading and hydrostatic pressure.

3. Install Ventilation Structure as shown in Contract Documents

4. Waterproof both interior and exterior walls and cover in accordance with Section 54 of the StateCaltrans Standard Specifications. All joints shall be water tight.

5. Excavation is considered structural excavation and sheuldshall conform to requirements of Section 33 05 28. Trenching and Backfilling for Utilities.

6. Prior to installation of precast vaults, the Contractor shall submit drawings showing vault manufacturer and all dimensions of vaults and covers and a copy of the engineering calculations supporting the design to the Engineer VTA and Cities per Section 01 33 00. Submittal Procedures, and Section 01 33 23. Shop Drawings. Product Data, and Samples.

7. Where conduits or cables are installed through the vault wall, non-shrink grout shall be used to seal the opening. Non-shrink grout shall conform to the requirements of Section 03 61 11. Non-Shrink Grout. The maximum opening size shall be the conduit or cable outer diameter plus 2 inches, unless indicated otherwise on the Drawings.

3.02 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

Delete Articles 3.02A and 3.02B and substitute therefor the following:

A. Field inspection and tests shall be performed by Contractor in accordance with Section 01 45 00, Quality Control and the applicable portions of ASTM C1037. Where applicable. -F field inspection and tests within the jurisdiction of the City of San Jose shall be performed by Contractor also in accordance with Section 1207, "Pipe and Structures", Section 1305, "Pipeline Structures", of the City of San Jose Standard Specifications and Details. Where applicable. Ffield inspection and tests within the jurisdiction of the City of Milpitas shall be performed by Contractor also in accordance with City of Milpitas Standard Specifications for Roadway and Storm Sewer Improvements and Standard Specifications for Sanitary Sewers, including the applicable portions of ASTM CI 037.

B. Inspection by VTA, City. SCVWD and other Governing and Regulatory Agencies: The Contractor shall allow VTA, the City of San Jose. City of Milpitas, SCVWD and other governing authorities to perform testing and inspection of materials and practices associated

with construction within their jurisdiction on the Jobsite premises during business hours for the purpose of ensuring that the Work is in compliance with requirements of the City code and other Local, State and Federal laws and regulations.
