Toxic gases such as chlorine, sulfur dioxide and

ammonia are commonly used for water and wastewater

treatment, and in many industrial fabrication processes. The Uni form Fire Code Article 80 establishes strict

standards for storing and handling toxic gases. Any

faci li ty that uses these gases must be prepared with a

stand-by emergency scrubber system that wi ll contain,

absorb, and neutralize a release of the gas. This scrubber

must reduce toxic emissions to less than 1/2the Immediate

Danger to Life and Health value. In addition, as of June30, 1999, the Clean Air Act requires that any facili ty that

stores toxic gas must prepare a Risk Management Plan

(RMP). An emergency vapor scrubber system is an

essential component of an effective RMP.

To this end, RJ Environmental Products offers a

complete line of emergency vapor scrubbers. Our

emergency chlorine scrubbers have been rigorously testedby a C.A.B.O.* certi fied laboratory. In 1992 and 1997,

ful l-scale tests were conducted with actual one-ton releases

of chlorine gas. On both occasions, our scrubbers passed the

test wi th flying colors, neutralizing the toxic gas whi le

maintaini ng emissions well below the 5 ppm UFC

requirement. A unique 38,000 cfm chlorine scrubber was

also tested at release rates up to 300 lbs./min, wi th noemissions exceeding 1 ppm.

Our equipment has been proven beyond question.

Our knowledge, experience, and technology are

    unequalled.

    SETTING THE STANDARD

    The RJ-2000TM Emergency Vapor

Scrubber System sets the standard for

    emergency vapor treatment in the

    water and wastewater industries. The

    RJ-2000 is a patented, multi-stage

wet scrubber system that is uniquely

designed to handle extreme gas release

    rates and to achieve exceptional

    removal efficiencies. All systems are

    manufactured from the highest

    quality components and materials,

    including premium vinylester FRP

    construction.

    GUARANTEED PERFORMANCE

    A leak from a one-ton chlorine storage

tank can release chlorine gas at a rate of

100 lbs/min or more, with inletconcentrations exceeding 500,000

ppm. To reduce the concentration to

less than 1 ppm, the RJ-2000 mustremove 99.9995% of the chlorine. Our

ability to provide this level of perfor-

mance is based on first-hand experi-

ence with full-scale, one-ton gas release

    tests performed by an independent

    C.A.B.O. certified laboratory.

    LOW COST INSTALLATION &

    MAINTENANCE Each RJ-2000

    system is factory assembled and

    mechanically tested prior to shipment.

    The patented compact design mini-

mizes the height and footprint and

    lowers installation and maintenance

    costs substantially.

    THE INDUSTRY LEADER Since

its introduction in 1992, the RJ-2000

Emergency Vapor Scrubber System hasbecome the industry leader, with more

    than 300 installations worldwide.

SYSTEM DESIGN The RJ-2000 system uses a

    patented, multi-stage packed bed

    design. A pre-treatment stage handles

    extremely high gas concentrations,

    while subsequent high-efficiency

stages remove the remainder of the

    toxic vapors.

    The systems are designed for

releases of chlorine, sulfur dioxide, or

ammonia. The schematic diagrambelow illustrates the scrubbing process.

When a leak occurs, the pump and fan

    start automatically. The fan provides

vapors within the gas storage room.

The toxic vapors are then pulled

    into the scrubber system, where

they are absorbed by a concentrated

    caustic (sodium hydroxide) solution.

The RJ-2000 system is designed to

    start automatically and to continue

    running until manually shut down.

For ammonia applications, the systemoperates on a once through water basis.

No recirculation pump is required and

    no caustic is used.

RJ-2000 BULK SYSTEMS SINGLE TANK DESIGN INFORMATION

BULK SYSTEMS Facilities that store 4 or more

tons of toxic gas may require the

    RJ-2000 Bulk System. The Bulk

System consists of a standard RJ-2000

scrubber mounted to a flange on top

of a bulk caustic storage tank. The

caustic storage tank is sized to

    supply sufficient sodium hydroxide to

neutralize the largest possible gas leak.

The recirculation pump and fan arealso mounted on top of the bulk tank,

while the control panel is usually

    mounted at ground level. Depending

on the volume of the gas storage

room, the air flow rate is typically

    3,000 to 5,000 cfm.

    THE RJ-1 5 0 SERIES

    RJ-150 SERIES

    RJ-150 DESIGN INFORMATION

    The RJ-150-PP Pre-Packaged

    series combines gas storage, water

    treatment, and emergency vapor

    scrubbing into one skid-mounted or

    trailer-mounted system. Systems can be

    designed for chlorination, dechlorina-

tion, or ammoniation purposes and are

    ideal for remote locations.

    The units are factory-assembled

and include a standard RJ-150 scrub-

ber and a 48 sq. ft. FRP shelter which

    houses the system controls, water

    treatment equipment, gas cylinders,

    and gas detection equipment.

The RJ-150 is a smaller versionof the RJ-2000 system. It is designed to

    contain and neutralize releases from

150 pound gas cylinders. Systems are

    typically designed for 2, 4 or 6 on-line

gas cylinders, as listed below. The sys-

tems can be used to treat releases of

    chlorine, sulfur dioxide, or ammonia

    vapors.

RJ Environmental Products offers a full range of wet scrubber and carbonadsorption odor control systems, including:

LO/PRO Packaged Odor Control System a patented, multi-stage

scrubber which can do the work of conventional packed towers in less than half

the space and at a fraction of the cost.

Packed Tower Systems a traditional design that can handle large

volumes of air. An extended sump deck enables the use of seal-less pumps

for low maintenance and safe, easy access to instrumentation.

Carbon Adsorption Systems useful for small air flows or remote

locations, these systems can also remove organic compounds that are difficult to

    control with wet scrubbers.

With hundreds of odor control systems operating worldwide, USFilter is

the definitive industry leader. If you have an odor control problem, USFilter has

    the solution.
