8159642TOOL USE AND CARE

1. Use the right tool for the job. Do not attempt to force a small tool to do the work of a larger industrial tool. The tool will perform better and safer at the task for which it was intended. Do not modify this tool or use for a purpose for which it was not designed.

2. Maintain tools with care. Keep tools sharp, clean and in good condition for a better and safer performance. The handles must be kept clean, dry and free from oil and grease at all times.

3. Avoid unintentional starts. Be sure that the throttle/ignition switch is in neutral or OFF position when not in use and before connecting it to any power.

4. Know you power tool. Read and understand the owner's manual and labels affixed to the tool. Learn its application and limitation as well as the specific potential hazards peculiar to this tool.

5. Keep guards in place. Keep in working order and properly adjusted and aligned. 6. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches. Form a habit of checking to see that keys and adjusting

wrenches are removed from tool before turning it on.7. Direction of feed. Feed work into a blade or cutter against the direction of rotation of the blade

or cutter only. 8. When the work piece is jammed, turn off the scroll saw, remove plug from power source outlet,

wedge open the cut, and back the blade out of the work piece.9. Do not perform layout, assembly, or set up work on the table while the cutting tool is operating.10. Your scroll saw must be bolted securely to a stand or workbench. In addition, if there's any tendency

for the scroll saw to move during certain operations, bolt your scroll saw stand or workbench. 11. Do not cut pieces of material too small to hold by hand. 12. Avoid awkward hand positions where a sudden slip could cause a hand to move into the blade.13. Never turn your scroll saw "ON" before clearing the table of all objects (tools, scraps of wood, etc.,)

except for the work piece and related feed or support devices for the table. 14. Make sure the blade teeth point downward toward the table. 15. Always adjust blade tension correctly. 16. When cutting a large piece of material, make sure it is supported at table height. 17. Hold the work firmly against the table. 18. Do not feed the material too fast while cutting. Only feed the material fast enough that the blade will

cut. Keep fingers away from the blade. 19. Use caution when cutting off material that is irregular in cross section that could pinch the blade

before the cut is completed. A piece of molding for example must lie flat on the table and not be permitted to rock while being cut.

20. Use caution when cutting off round material such as dowel rods, or tubing. They have a tendency to roll while being cut causing the blade to "bite". When backing the blade out of the workplace, the blade may bind in the cut; this is usually caused by sawdust clogging up the cut. If this happens:

Turn off the scroll saw, remove plug from power source outlet, wedge open the cut, and back the blade out of the work piece.

SERVICE1. Check for damaged parts. Before using any tool, any part that appears to be damaged should be

carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform its intended functions. Check for alignment and binding of moving parts; broken parts or mounting fixtures, or any other condition that may affect proper operation. Any part that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by a qualified technician.

2. When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Only use accessories intended for use with this tool. Replace damaged parts immediately.

ELECTRICAL & OPERATING SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS1. Disconnect power supply. Disconnect from power supply when not in use, before cleaning, unplugging,

servicing or changing any parts or accessories.2. Protect yourself against electric shocks when working on electrical equipment. Prevent body

contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cooking stoves and refrigerators. There is an increased chance of electrical shock if your body is grounded.

3. Grounded tools must be plugged into an outlet properly installed and grounded in accordance with all codes and ordinances. Never remove the grounding prong or modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs. Check with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded. If the tool should electronically malfunction or break down, grounding provides a low resistance path to carry electricity away from the user.

4. Do not expose to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

For any technical questions, please call 1-800-665-86853

81596425. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord to pull the tool or pull the plug from an outlet. Keep cord

away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Do not operate this tool if the power cord is frayed or damaged. Replace damaged cords immediately. Damaged cords increase the risk of electric shock. Do not modify the plug in any way.

6. When operating a power tool outside, use an outdoor extension cord marked “W-A” or “W”. These cords are rated for outdoor use and reduce the risk of electric shock.

7. Avoid using an unnecessarily long extension cord. Choose a cord that is appropriate for the situation, as a cord that is too long and running across the floor can be more dangerous than helpful.

8. Problems concerned with any moving part(s) or accessories must be investigated and corrected with the power disconnected and after everything has come to a complete stop.

9. Never leave tool running unnattended Turn power off. Don't leave tool until it comes to a complete stop. Safety is a combination of operator

common sense and alertness at all times, when the scroll saw is being used. 10. Never stand on a tool Serious injury could occur if the tool is tipped or if the cutting tool is accidentally contacted. Do not store

materials above or near the tool such that it is necessary to stand on the tool to reach them.

UNPACKINGCAUTION: NEVER LIFT THIS SAW BY THE ARM which holds the blade or damage will occur to your saw.

1. Carefully remove the parts and accessories from the box.2. Make sure that all items listed in the packaging lists are included.3. Inspect the parts carefully to make sure no breakage or damage occurred during shipping.4. Do not discard the packaging material until you have carefully inspected and satisfactorily

operated the tool.

WARNING! For your own safety, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OPERATE your scroll saw until it is completely assembled and installed according to the instructions. If any part is missing, do not operate the tool until the missing parts are replaced. Failure to do so could result in serious personal injury.

it is approximately perpendicular, or at a right angle to the blade.

2. Use a small square to set the table at 90º to the blade.

3. When the space between the square and the blade is minimal, tighten the bevel lock knob. The table should now be approximately 90º to the blade.

4. Loosen the screw holding the bevel scale pointer and adjust pointer to 0º. Tighten screw. Remember, the bevel scale is a convenient guide but should not be relied upon for precision. Make practice cuts in scrap wood to determine if your angle settings are correct, adjust the table as required.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING BLADE WARNING: TO AVOID INJURY from passing the blade through the slot in the table by the access hole in the lower blade holder, slide the top blade into the pin recess of the top blade holder.

1. Install the blade by inserting one end through the slot in the table then the access hole in the lower blade holder, slide the top blade into the pin recess of the top blade holder. You may need to press down lightly on the upper end by using the T-style tool.

2. If the blade is UNDER TENSIONED, it will break more frequently. The thicker, harder and more abrasive the wood you are cutting the more blades you will have to replace. Blade breakage is also caused by the following: overworking the blade by going too fast, twisting or bending the blade; overusing the blade when it is dull; OVER AGGRESSIVE FEEDING of the workpiece into the blade.

3. Loosen tension on the blade by pressing the T-style tool into the upper end of the blade holder and turning it.

4. Loosen 2 screws on blade holder. Remove blade by pulling it forward.

5. In order to avoid uncontrolled lifting of the work piece, the teeth of the blades used on the scroll saw should always be installed point downward.

BASIC OPERATIONSBASIC SCROLL SAW OPERATIONPLEASE read and understand the following items about your scroll saw before attempting to use the saw.

• The saw does not cut wood by itself. You allow the saw to cut the wood by guiding it into the blade as it moves

• The blade teeth cut wood only on the down stoke• You must guide the wood into the blade slowly because the teeth of the blade are very small and they

can only remove wood when they are on the down stroke• There is a learning period for each person who uses this saw. During that period of time it is expected

that some blades will break until you learn how to use the saw efficiently• The best results are achieved when cutting wood less than 25mm (1") thick• When cutting wood thicker than 25mm (1") the user must guide the wood very, very slowly into the blade

and take extra care not to bend or twist the blade while cutting in order to maximize blade life• The scroll saw blades must be replaced frequently for best cutting results. Scroll saw blades generally

stay sharp for 1/2 hour to 2 hours of cutting MAKING INTERIOR SCROLL CUTS

• One of the features of this saw is that it can be used to make scroll cuts on the interior of a board without cutting into it's outline or perimeter

• Drill a 6.4mm (1/2") hole in the board you will use to make interior cuts• Place the board on the saw blade with the hole in the board over the access hole in the table• Install the blade through the hole in the board, reattach the blade to the blade holders and adjust the

blade tension • When finished making the interior scroll cuts simply remove the blade from the blade holders as

described in the assembly section and remove the board from the table• To get accurate cuts be prepared to compensate for the blades tendency to follow the wood grain as you

are cutting • This scroll saw is intended to cut wood or wood products only

WARNING: TO AVOID INJURY FROM ACCIDENTAL STARTING, ALWAYS PUSH THE OFF SWITCH "O" AND UNPLUG THE POWER CORD FROM THE ELECTRICAL OUTLET BEFORE REMOVING OR REPLACING THE BLADE.

When choosing a blade to use with your scroll saw, carefully onsider the following:• Very fine narrow blades should be use to cut wood of less than 6.4mm (1/2") thick• To cut wood over 6.4mm (1/2") thick use wider blades• Most blade packages state the size or thickness of wood that the blade is intended to cut and the radius

size of the curve which it can cut• Wider blades can't cut curves as tight or smaller than thinner blades • Narrow blades work well only on thin wood material • Blades wear faster when cutting plywood which is very abrasive; when sawing wood which is thicker

than 19mm (3/4"), when sawing hardwood, or when side pressure is placed on the blade

MAINTENANCEWARNING: FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY, ALWAYS PUSH THE OFF SWITCH "O" AND UNPLUG THE POWER CORD FROM THE ELECTRICAL OUTLET BEFORE MAINTAINING OR LUBRICATING YOUR SAW.

GENERAL • An occasional coat of paste wax on the work table will allow the wood being cut to glide smoothly

across the work surface

MOTOR • If the power cable is worn, cut or damaged in any way have it replaced immediately. Don't attempt to oil

the motor bearings or service the motor internal parts

• Before starting to use the scroll saw make sure you are aware of all its features and know how to turn the machine on and off. Follow all safety guide lines laid down in pages 5 and 6 of this manual

• The On/Off switch is located at the side of the machine. This means that in the event of a power failure the machine will only restart by manually pressing the green (I) button. To switch the machine ON press the green (I) button. To switch the machine OFF press the red (O) button

VARIABLE SPEED SWITCH • The variable speed switch is located at the same position as the On Off switches, and is a dial with

an indicator arrow showing L and H for speed control. Turn clockwise to increase speed and counter-clockwise to decrease speed
