The Adventure
Scene1 : On the other side of the Island
Characters :Ralph, Jack,Simon, Jackson,Maurice
(Narrator enters stage)
(Plays previous chapter videos )
Narrator : Attention to all ear. This drama have no relation with the Dead and the living.
(Ralph and Simon enters the stage)
Narrator : Ralph was sitting under what seemed an unusual heat, even for this island, Ralph
planned his toilet. He would like to have a pair of scissors and cut his hair. he flung the mass
back cut this filthy hair right back to half an inch. He would like to have a bath. He looking for
his friends that in dirty and undisciplined. He just sighs and continuesthrowing his view to the
open sea. Here, on the other side of the island, the view was utterly different. The filmy
enchantments of mirage could not endure the cold ocean water and
the horizon was hard, clipped blue. Ralph wandered down to the rocks. Down here, almost on a
level with the sea, you could follow with your eye the ceaseless, bulgingpassage of the deep sea
waves. They were miles wide, apparently not breakers or the banked ridges of shallow water.
They traveled the length of the island with an air of disregarding it and being set on other
business; they were less a progress than a momentous rise and fall of the whole ocean.
(Simon enters the stage and kneeling on one knee)
(Ralph looked so exhausted)
Ralph : You’ll get back to where you came from.
(Simon nodded as he spoke)
Simon : It was really high and many rocks down there.
Ralph : You are so batty.
Simon : No, I am not . I will get back home
(The situation get a little bit awkward. They both laugh)
Ralph : Ok, wanna bet ?
Simon : Bro, that is HARAM, I mean it is illegal.
Ralph : ( Make a troll face )
Jackson : Hey, You guys what are you talking about ? (Excited)
(Ralph and Simon feel distracted and get away from that place)
Jackson : Hey, Bro. (Feel alone )
(Jackson exit the stage and Jack enters the stage)
Jack : Ralph, my friend (Make innocence face) .We have run out of food. We must find a pig
dropping right now although we searching for other things
Ralph : If you think that’s a good idea. We will hunt then .
Narrator : They set off again, the hunters bunched a little by fear of the mentioned
beast, while Jack quested ahead. They went more slowly than Ralph had
bargained for; yet in a way he was glad to loiter, cradling his spear. Jack
came up against some emergency of his craft and soon the procession
stopped. Ralph leaned against a tree and at once the daydreams came
swarming up. Jack was in charge of the hunt and there would be time to
get to the mountain .
(Ralph started daydreaming and exit the stage)
Narrator : The boys are now going to pursue the ‘feast’.
(Robert, Ralph,Jack ,Simon ,Maurice enter the stage )
(Ralph saw the boar and throw the spear and hit the boar)
(The boar run)
Ralph : I hit him !!! I get him !!!Finally ,after a long journey we had confront . We have caught
the beast !!! HAHAHAHA (Happy)
Jack : Hoi ! That’s not the beast. That is the boar. Also, you were not “get” him. You have let
him away. (Angry)
Ralph : I hit him with my spear. You can ask Maurice (confidence)
Maurice : (Nodded) Yes, I saw it ran away. (with poker face and confidence)
Ralph : You are not helping you know. (Ashame face)
Jack : Look, I have supporter now. Actually, The one that hit the boar is Jackson.
Jackson : Yes, I have make a scratch at the boar’s leg (Happily)
Ralph : Good for you, Bro ( Innocence face )
Jack : Ralph, you can be better next time ( Pretend to be good )
Ralph : Oh, Thank you Jack ( Weird ). Now I can feel that hunting is good after all.
Take the Risk
Scene 2 : On the other side of the Island ( In forest to mountain )
Character : Ralph, Bill, Robert , Jackson, Simon, Samneric , Mystery voice
Narrator : Suddenly, Robert came from nowhere.
(Robert Mock into the discussion )
Jack : Make a ring ! (want to jabbing on Robert )
(The circle moved in and round. Robert squealed in mock terror, then
in real pain.)
Robert :Ow! Stop it! You’re hurting me !
The butt end of a spear fell on his back as he blundered among them.
Jack : Hold him!
They got his arms and legs. Ralph, carried away by a sudden thick
excitement, grabbed Eric’s spear and jabbed at Robert with it.
Jackson : Kill him! Kill him!
All at once, Robert was screaming and struggling with the strength of
frenzy. Jack had him by the hair and was brandishing his knife. Behind
him was Roger, fighting to get close. The chant rose ritually, as at the last
moment of a dance or a hunt.
All the actors : Kill the pig! Cut his throat! Kill the pig! Bash him in!
Narrator :Ralph too was fighting to get near, to get a handful of that brown, vulnerable flesh. The
desire to squeeze and hurt was over-mastering.Jack’s arm came down; the heaving circle cheered
and made pig-dyingnoises. Then they lay quiet, panting, listening to Robert’s frightenedsnivels.
He wiped his face with a dirty arm, and made an effort to retrieve his status.
Robert :Oh, my bum!
(Robert rubbed his rump ruefully. Jack rolled over.)
Jack : That was a good game. (annoying voice)
Ralph : Just a game ? I got jolly badly hurt at rugger once.
Maurice : We ought to have a drum, then we could do it properly.
(Ralph looked at Maurice)
Ralph : How properly?
Maurice : I dunno. You want a fire, I think, and a drum, and you keep time to
the drum.
Roger :You want a pig , like a real hunt.
Jack :Or someone to pretend,You could get someone to dress
up as a pig and then he could act. You know, pretend to knock me over
and all that.
Robert :You want a real pig,( still caressing his rump), because
you’ve got to kill him.”
Jack : Use a littlun
(everybody laugh)
Narrator : For your own information littlun is little child or young animal, but in novel Lord of
The Flies the special meaning of littlun is a common folk.
(Ralph sat up)
Ralph : Well, at this rate . We will never catch the beast we wanted for. It will be a year if you
guys have this kind of attitude.
(One by one they stood up, twitching rags into place.)
(Ralph looked at Jack)
Ralph : Now for the mountain.
Maurice : Shouldn’t we go back to Piggy, before dark?
(Ralph looked out and saw the sea)
Ralph : We’ve got to start the fire again.
Jack : You haven’t got Piggy’s specs, so you can’t.
Ralph : Then we’ll find out if the mountain’s clear.
Maurice : Supposing the beast’s up there? (hesitating)
(Jack brandished his spear)
Jack : We’ll kill it for sure (swagger)
(The sun seemed a little cooler. He slashed with the spear.)
Jack : What are we waiting for?
Ralph :I suppose, if we keep on by the sea this way, we’ll come
out below the burnt bit and then we can climb the mountain.
(At morning)
Ralph : Wake up !!! Today we have a mountain to climb.
Jack : Bro, Are you sure ? Leaving Piggy with the littluns ? All night long ? If we went back it’s
should take hours.
Ralph :Hmmmm, If we get across. Someone must tell Piggy that we’ll back after dark.
Bill : (shocked ) Through by himself ? Now ?Are you sure. You think one of our camrade is
Rambo or what ? We can’t spare more than one.
(Simon pushed his way to Ralph’s elbow)
Simon : I’ll go if you like. I don’t mind, honestly. Also, Rambo is my friend during childhood.
We used to play “congkak” together. (speaking seriously)
(everyone laugh)
(Before Ralph had time to reply, he smiled quickly, turned and climbed
into the forest. Ralph looked back at Jack, seeing him, infuriatingly, for the first time. )
Ralph : Jack that time you went the whole way to the castle rock.
(Jack glowered)
Jack : Yes?
Ralph :You came along part of this shore below the mountain, beyond there. ( pointing at some
place )
Jack : Yes
Ralph : And then?
Jack :I found a pig-run. It went for miles.
Ralph :So the pig-run must be somewhere in there.(pointing at the forest)
(Ralph nodded)
(Everybody agreed, sagely)
Ralph :All right then. We’ll smash a way through till we find the pig-run.( he took a step and
halt) Wait a minute though! Where does the pig-run go to?
Jack : The mountain, I told you.(He sneered )Don’t you want
to go to the mountain?
(Ralph sighed, sensing the rising antagonism, understanding that this
was how Jack felt as soon as he ceased to lead.)
Ralph :I was thinking of the light. We’ll be stumbling about.
Jack :We were going to look for the beast.
Ralph : There won’t be enough light.
Jack : I don’t mind going, said Jack hotly. I’ll go when we get there. Won’t
you? Would you rather go back to the shelters and tell Piggy?
(Now it was Ralph’s turn to flush but he spoke despairingly, out of the new understanding that
Piggy had given him)
Ralph : Why do you hate me?”(in despair)
(The boys stirred uneasily, as though something indecent had been said)
( The silence lengthened )
(Ralph, still hot and hurt, turned away first.
Ralph : Come on.
(He led the way and set himself as by right to hack at the tangles. Jack
brought up the rear, displaced and brooding )
( The pig-track was a dark tunnel, for the sun was sliding quickly toward
the edge of the world and in the forest shadows were never far to seek.
The track was broad and beaten and they ran along at a swift trot. Then
the roof of leaves broke up and they halted, breathing quickly, looking at
the few stars that pricked round the head of the mountain)
Ralph : There you are.
(The boys peered at each other doubtfully. Ralph made a decision )
Ralph :We’ll go straight across to the platform and climb tomorrow.
(They murmured agreement; but Jack was standing by his shoulder )
Ralph : If you’re frightened of course.
(Ralph turned on him)
Ralph :Who went first on the castle rock?
Jack : That was me. I am the greatest here. Come on, don’t ask a dumb question. Simon : Yeah,
that was in daylight my friend. Don’t be too proud.
Jack : ( poker face )
Ralph :All right. Who wants to climb the mountain now? (excitedly )
(Silence was the only answer.)
Ralph :Samneric? What about you?
Samneric : We ought to go an’ tell Piggy .Yes, tell Piggy that…
Ralph : But, Simon went !!!
Samneric : We ought to tell Piggy in case.
Ralph : Robert? Bill?
(They were going straight back to the platform now. Not, of course, that
they were afraid but tired )
(Ralph turned back to Jack)
Ralph : You see?
Jack: I’m going up the mountain (viciously )I’m going up the mountain to look for the beast
now.Coming?”
(At that word the other boys forgot their urge to be gone and turned
back to sample this fresh rub of two spirits in the dark. The word was too
good, too bitter, too successfully daunting to be repeated. It took Ralph
at low water when his nerve was relaxed for the return to the shelter and
good, too bitter, too successfully daunting to be repeated.
Jack : I don’t mind (astonished)
Ralph : If you don’t mind, of course
Jack : Oh, not at all.
Ralph : Well then.
Jack “We’re silly. Why should only two go? If we find anything, two won’t be enough.
(There came the sound of boys scuttling away. Astonishingly, a dark figure moved against the
tide )
Ralph : Roger?
Roger : Yes
Ralph : That’s three, then.
Narrator : Once more they set out to climb the slope of the mountain. Jack see something during
the climbing the mountain.
Jack : I saw a thing on top !
Ralph : Keep a good look out, it may be following
(Jack sat up)
Jack : I saw a thing on top of the mountain.
Ralph :(shakily) You only imagined it,because nothing would
bulge. Not any sort of creature
Roger : I think it’s just a frog.
(Jack giggled and shuddered)
Jack : Some frog. There was a noise too. A kind of ‘plop’ noise. Then the
thing bulged.
Ralph: ( surprised ) We’ll go and look.
Jack : (whispered) Let’s creep forward on hands and knees. Maybe it’s asleep.
( Roger and Ralph moved on, this time leaving Jack in the rear, for all
his brave words. They came to the flat top where the rock was hard to
hands and knees.
(A creature that bulge. Ralph put his hand in the cold, soft ashes of the fire and smothered a cry.
His hand and shoulder were twitching from the unlooked-for contact.
Green lights of nausea appeared for a moment and ate into the darkness.
Roger lay behind him and Jack’s mouth was at his ear.)
Ralph : Over there, where there used to be a gap in the rock. A sort of hump see?
(Ashes blew into Ralph’s face from the dead fire. He could not see the
gap or anything else, because the green lights were opening again and
growing, and the top of the mountain was sliding sideways.
Once more, from a distance, he heard Jack’s whisper)
Jack : (Whispering) Scared ?
(Not scared so much as paralyze. Jack slid away from him, Roger bumped, fumbled with a hiss
of breath, and passed onwards. He heard them whispering.)
Jack : Can you see anything?
Ralph : There ( pointing at the shadow )
(In front of them, only three or four yards away, was a rock-like hump
where no rock should be. Ralph could hear a tiny chattering noise coming
from somewhere perhaps from his own mouth. He bound himself
together with his will, fused his fear and loathing into a hatred, and stood
up. He took two leaden steps forward.
Behind them the silver of moon had drawn clear of the horizon. Before
them, something like a great ape was sitting asleep with its head between
its knees. Then the wind roared in the forest, there was confusion in the
darkness and the creature lifted its head, holding toward them the ruin
of a face.
Ralph found himself taking giant strides among the ashes, heard other
creatures crying out and leaping and dared the impossible on the dark
slope; presently the mountain was deserted, save for the three abandoned
sticks and the thing that bowed.)
The Argument
Scene 3 : Near the beach.
Characters: Piggy, Ralph, Jack
[A dimly light scene taking up the area of the stage. The imposing figure of the character, Piggy
stares miserably from the dawn-pale to the dark mountain. Jack draws a circular pattern in the
sand using his forefinger. The others are doing their activities near the beach.]
Piggy : Are you sure? Really sure? That we’re safe down here? [He jerks]
Ralph : I told you dozen times. How the hell should I know? [He walks a few paces from Piggy]
Piggy : Are you sure? Really? (feeling of scared)
Jack : Go up and see! Good riddance. No fear. [sounds rather arrogant]
Ralph : The beast had teeth and a black big eyes. (shudded violently)
Piggy : What are we going to do now? [He takes off his glass and cleans it]
Ralph turned toward the platform and pushed the mop back.
Ralph : I don’t know. (sighed) I don’t think we’ve ever fight a thing that size. All of us are scared
including Jack.
Jack : [looking to the sand] What about my hunters?
Ralph : (Ignore) You’ve been rude about the hunters.
Jack : [Stand up][His face turns red] Oh, shut up ! This meeting- I called for it !
Ralph : If you hadn’t called for it. I will. You just blew the conch. Oh take it ! Go-on talk now.
[He sits down on the trunk]
Jack : There are a lot of things. [Arrogantly] First, we’ve seen the beast and Ralph said my
hunters are no good !
Ralph : I never said that !
Jack : [walks near Ralph and point his finger towards Ralph’s face] He’s like Piggy. He says
things like Piggy. HE ISN’T A PROPER CHIEF. He’s a COWARD himself. [He stops for a
moment] He just gives order and expects people to obey for NOTHING ! All this talk-
Ralph : [stand up] All this talk ! Talk ! Talk! Who wants it? Who calls for it ?
Jack : [His face turns red] Okay, fine! Who thinks Ralph oughtn’t to be chief? [He says strongly
and looks around] Hands up !.
The silence continues.
Jack : How many think- [he stops] All right then. I’m not going to be part of Ralph again. I’m
going by myself.
[He turns back and makes a pass. The light turns off and the scene changes to…]
The Party
Scene 4 : In the jungle.
Characters: Jack and his boys.
[Jack runs in front of his boys while holding a stick. His boys also run and holding a stick where
a pig is being tied. They stop at a spot in the jungle. Jack holds a knife and stab the pig’s neck]
Jack : Tonight we’re going to make a feast.
The boys agree with their chief’s idea.
Jack : Roger, sharpen the stick at the both ends.
Roger : Where the stick?
Jack : [hold the pig’s head and throat down the head on the pointed end of the stick] The head is
for the beast. It’s a gift ! Pick up the pig.
[The boys pick up the pig and run. The lights turn off and change to…]
Die of Innocence
Scene 5 : Near the beach.
Characters: Jack and his boys, Ralph and his boys, Piggy, Simon
[Ralph and his boys are doing their activities near the beach. Ralph is talking with Piggy
and Simon. Suddenly, some figures of people running towards them. Jack and his boys run
to them and shout happily.]
Jack : Hey you guys ! Tonight we’re going to make a feast of pig. Who want to join us? If you
guys want it, just come to our campfire. [sounds proudly] [He counts 1,2,3]
Jack’s boys : That’s our chief. [Making faces to Ralph]
Jack and his boys walk away from the site to the jungle. The twins are looking at one another and
think about Jack’s idea. Ralph and Piggy just remain silent. Simon makes a leave from the place.
[Jack and his boys are dancing around the campfire. There are some Ralph’s boys are joining
Jack. Ralph and Piggy move slowly towards the campfire.]
Jack : Ralph, you’re coming to join us here.
Ralph : No, I come here is not because I want to join you. I just come here to ask you to join me
back. We should not move in two groups.
Jack : I’m brave enough to be hunter. I’m the chief here. Look what I got for my hunting.
[laughing proudly]
Jack’s and their boys dance around the campfire happily while sing a song.
Suddenly, there are a figure who come towards them with a green light on his hand. All of them
are so scared and run towards the figure and kill the figure using their sharp stick.
Jack : Kill ! Kill ! This is the beast ! Yeah, we manage to kill the beast.
Ralph : Stop ! Wait ! [Look at the figure closely] It is Simon !
