Mission

1. Facilitate development of the understanding, competencies and experience required to safely participate in a range of activities within Australian alpine environments

2. Provide an opportunity for participants to attain relevant Australian Government SIS10/Scouts Australia Institute of Training (SAIT) units of competency

Objectives

• Stated in order of importance, the objectives of the Program are to1. stay safe

2. have fun

3. develop understanding and skills and

4. gain experience.

Content

• The ADP is about gaining and demonstrating understanding and skills outlined within specific, alpine-oriented Australian Government Training Framework SIS10 Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package units of competency.

• These units of competency represent a subset of those constituting Scouts Australia Institute of Training (SAIT) alpine leader qualifications.

• The ADP includes some additional SIS10 units of competency not included within SAIT alpine leader qualifications.

Assessment

• Participants can be assessed against units of competency covered within the Program.

• Assessment is optional and, where pursued, progressive.

• Assessment is about demonstrating understanding and skills outlined within relevant SIS10 units of competency.

• This can contribute to a Certificate II, III or IV in Outdoor Education.

Prerequisites

1. Current membership as either a Youth Member, Leader or Adult Volunteer with Scouts Australia

2. Working with Vulnerable People Card (for Leaders and Adult Volunteers)

3. Venturing Skills Award or equivalent experience

3. A Facebook account or the ability to remain informed, respectively communicate with facilitators and participants via a parent/guardian's Facebook account

Prerequisites

4. Good general fitness– Mountaincraft Level One is the benchmark.

• Survive that and you’ll cope with the remainder of the Program!

– Fitness training is highly recommended – start today and be prepared!

• See Freedom, Chapter 4 for guidance.

5. ACT Ambulance Cover– You may already have this as part of your

health insurance.

Communication

• The Scouts ACT – Alpine Development Program Facebook Group is the preferred means of communication.

• Communicating via the Facebook Group ensures that– communication is centralised and reposited.– members know when other members have read or

seen something.– the understanding, skills and experience we develop

is logged and is able to be readily exchanged.
