When you hear the word Scouting, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Some of you would probably say “camping” or “character,” or maybe even “fun.” While these are all great examples, would anyone think “business”?Think about it. Scouting is a business, and we are all employees in the character-building business. It’s our job to light the way for the youth of the Pikes Peak Council, preparing them to become the leaders of tomorrow. Providing experiences that help young men and women become caring and responsible adults, we illuminate the future for them, and for all of us.2014 was another remarkable year for the Pikes Peak Council. We urge you to review this year’s annual report and reflect on what you can do to make sure the business of Scouting continues to thrive in the Pikes Peak region. The Pikes Peak Council of the Boy Scouts of America has been serving youth for nearly 100 years. We were formed for the express purpose of providing Scouting programs to the young people of our territory. Currently, the Pikes Peak Council provides Scouting experiences to thousands of youth in an area spanning Colorado Springs, Woodland Park, Monument, Canon City and many communities in Colorado’s Eastern Plains. The Pikes Peak Council operates 2 camp properties, 1 Council Service Center and 1 Scout Shop to support Scouting programs. The Boy Scouts of America’s Scouting program continues to lead the nation and world in youth protection standards as an organization dedicated to keeping young people safe.

Camp Alexander, Pikes Peak Council’s premier Boy Scout Resident Camp, continues to boast one of the finest programs in all of the Western Region. Ask any of the 2,578 Scouts who spent a week at camp this summer and they’ll tell you the program remains second to none. With a highly trained staff, historic facilities and new programs being added each year, it’s no wonder that the season sells out year after year. Camp Alexander is located in the beautiful Eleven Mile Canyon in the Pike National Forest approximately 45 miles west of Colorado Springs, and two miles south of Lake George,

in Park County, Colorado. In 2015, Camp Alexander will celebrate its 70th anniversary! This milestone represents 70 years of providing Summer Camp excellence to youth across our region, the nation, and the world.

Glen Aspen Ranch is located 4 miles off Highway 24 outside Woodland Park and the property is surrounded on most sides by the Pike National Forest. The land is covered with varieties of foliage and wildlife is abundant and includes herds of elk, deer, bear, red tailed hawks, eagles and much more! There are backpacking campsites available along the ridge at the west boundary for those desiring a more rustic experience. Glen Aspen has a variety of supplies and equipment that groups can use at no cost. Recently the Council Executive Board approved the Ranch for Cub Scout events and activities.

Camp A has given me many fond memories as both staff and camper that I will not

soon forget...like rock climbing, canoeing, lifesaving, shooting, and mountain boarding

to name a few. To say Camp A impacted me would be a dramatic understatement,

Camp Alexander has change who I am today in ways that were intentional and

SAVE TAXES THROUGH A 50% TAX CREDITThe Child Care Contribution Credit (CCCC) was designed to promote child care in Colorado. Donors may qualify for this state tax credit by designating your gift to the Pikes Peak Council, Boy Scouts of America. Pikes Peak Council will use the CCCC gift to operate and/or expand programs and provide financial assistance to families who cannot afford to pay full program fees.

Guidelines:1. The donor must make a gift of $1,000 or more & indicate that the gift is for the CCCC.2. In-kind gifts do not qualify for the CCCC.3. Donors may not receive any goods or services in return for their contribution.4. The credit allowed shall not exceed $100,000 per year.5. Any unused credit will be carried forward.

The Pikes Peak Council, BSA will provide a signed letter that states the amount of the cash gift and the eligible purpose for which the gift was made, along with form DR1317 for claiming the state tax credit. Contact Jeremy Snook at 719-219-2915 for more information.
