Welcome to SMS We are looking forward to a GREAT first week of school!

Follow the suggestions/tips in this newsletter to help you get prepared for the first week of school and to help you stay organized and in control during the first week of school.

School starts on Monday, August 13th at 8:05 AM. The building opens at 7:30 AM. Students arriving prior to 7:30 AM will enter the front/office door and remain in the office until 7:30 (when supervision begins). We’ll have all hands on deck helping to direct students to their proper locations. Parents that want to take a picture of their kids at drop off, should pull into the office parking lot and walk with them to the door. Please do not plan to enter the building/halls with your child. We’ll have a very busy office August 13th making it difficult to admit large numbers of parents and guardians using our security system. Thank you for your understanding!

Bus students should be ready at the stop at least five minutes ahead of the pick up time (every day) but should be patient with bus drivers that are picking up new riders! Thank you!

First Week Planner Scottsburg Middle School

Before School Starts… Students and parents have things to do before we start our school year! Students are encouraged to start preparing their body clocks to accommodate a school day schedule. Research shows that middle school students benefit from 9-10 hours of sleep each night and from a consistent bed time. If you have a night owl at home, start bumping up the bed time and start shifting the morning wake up call to match school hours.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to check their digital connections to ensure smooth school-home communications from day one.

• Do you have one-touch access to Harmony on your smart phone? Open up Harmony on your phone and get to the place where you see your kids’ data. Save that page as a Web Clip by selecting “save to home page” in your sharing options. Now you’ll see grades with ONE touch on your phone!

• Do you have your push notifications set up in Harmony? At the bottom of your Harmony screen, you can customize push notifications. What school info do you want pushed to you? how? and when? Sign up to get a weekly progress report, discipline reports, attendance notifications, and more to keep on top of your kids!

• Do you have an Eventlink account? If not, go to the SMS web page and follow the Eventlink account info accessible on the front page. You’ll need this for school calendars, club calendars, sports calendars, and messages from coaches, etc. This is a free account. Anyone can create one!
