Longer Moment Arm IncreasesPerformanceTraditional multiple axis knee designshave a relatively short patello-femoralmoment arm which gets shorter as itmoves anteriorly and proximally with thechanging center of rotation. This decreasesleverage on the quadriceps muscle,forcing the patient to work harder toachieve full extension. In comparison, the center of rotation of the Scorpio TSfemoral component is fixed at thetrans epicondylar axis. This increases thelength of the patello-femoral momentarm, which maximizes quadricepsefficiency and allows the patient toachieve full extension with less effort.1

Longer Moment Arm DecreasesPotential for PainPatello-femoral joint reaction forcefrequently contributes to anterior kneepain following total knee arthroplasty.Traditional knee designs with a shortpatello-femoral moment arm increasejoint reaction force, and thus increase the potential for anterior knee pain.However, the Scorpio TS design, with itslonger patello-femoral moment arm, canbe expected to decrease the potential foranterior knee pain. Patients will appreciatethis advantage, especially when risingfrom a chair, climbing or descendingstairs, or walking long distances.1

Reliable Joint Line RestorationThe Scorpio TS System providesinstrumentation and augmentationoptions to accurately restore the anatomicaljoint line. The system utilizes threereference points from which to base jointline restoration: medial epicondyle, inferiorpole of the patella, and tibial tubercle.
