The Jackson Giants shook off last weekends woes andshowed up to play the Green River Knights on their home turf inGreen River , Wyoming. Although I was not able to make thetrip, the following accounts are from the Giants officialscorebook. The scorebook unfortunately was kept by the Jackson

bench who believe it or not, kept track of the game in pen.Thats like trying to do the New York Times crossword puzzle inink, my Grandmother could do it but not sure of many other

people. The result is an interesting study in black and white of squiggles, erroneous black marks, cross-outs, swirls and illegible

writing all on a blue background. The first inning started with the visiting Jackson team

facing Steven Zajic on the mound. The Giants did not face Zajicin their earlier meeting in May where the Giants squeaked by witha 7-6 win at the Evanston Tournament. Leading off for theGiants was Mr. Consistency, Charlie Wild who roped a line drivesingle into left field to start the ball rolling for the Giants.

Smith followed with a sacrifice bunt to get Wild over to 2 nd. Charlie Keegan then hit a long fly ball that thecenter fielder, Kyle Calkins mis-judged as Keeganreached base on the error, advancing Wild to 3rd. SkyGarnick then crushed a towering fly ball over the headof left fielder, Chris Dudzik who ran to the fence andquickly relayed the ball in keeping Garnick at 2 nd andKeegan at 3 rd but scoring Wild. But that was all for Jackson as Keegan somehow got out and Huhn hit afly ball to Dudzik in left. The home half of the firsthad Charlie Keegan (0-1) on the mound looking for hisfirst win as he faced the Green River lead-off hitter,John Collins. Collins started with a base hit to left, followed by Chris Dudzik. Dudzik sacrifice bunted

back to Keegan who relayed to Smith for the 1st

out.Steven Zajic grounded to shortstop Charlie Wild for the easy out to 1 st but advanced Collins to 3 rd.Pitching from the stretch, Keegan grooved one downthe middle for Cameron Otter who drove a fly ball tocenter to a waiting Garnick.

The top of the 2 nd had Carlos Toledo poppingout to the catcher, Bryn Windle looking at three andLucas Moulder grounding out to the shortstop, a quick 1-2-3 inning for Zajic. The bottom of the 2 nd as well,

was good for defense as Charlie Keegan reached intohis bag of tricks and whiffed Lorenzo Montoya, forcedKelly Garvin into a ground ball to Wild at short and

popped up Calkins to Grant Smith at first.Cam ODonahue led off the Giants with a ground ballto second for the first out which brought up the top of the order batsman, Charlie Wild who true to form, stroked another liner to left for a single to get thingsgoing. Hitting was contagious as Grant Smithevidently did not have the bunt sign as he drilled the

ball to the left field fence for a double getting Wild to3rd. With men on 2 nd and 3 rd, Charlie Keegan wentdown swinging for out #2 which brought up SkyGarnick, who again bombed another double into deepleft field scoring Wild and Smith. With Garnick dancing on 2 nd, Zajic grooves one into the wheelhouse

Charlie Keegan was strong at the plate as well ason the mound

shot that squirreled away from Chris Dudzik in left scoring both Wild and Smith. Sky Garnick hit a grounder to short who flipped the ball to 2 nd to get Keegan on the force. Garnick stolesecond just before the mighty Huhn popped up to the catcher for the final out.

Charlie Keegan remained strong in the bottom of the 4 th as he fooled Lorenzo Montoyawith one of his Keegan Killer Kurveballs to send him back to the bench shaking his head.Kelly Garvin got back at Keegan though and drilled a double between Bryn Windle and SkyGarnick into left center. Kyle Calkins then blooped a single past the outstretched hands of Cameron ODonahue at 2 nd, advancing Garvin to 3 rd. Calkins then stole second. Allen Reepthen hit a high fly ball into left to a waiting Bryn Windle who caught the ball and quickly relayedit in to hold Garvin at 3 rd. The #9 batter Arguello then dropped a fair ball over the head of Colter Huhn for an RBI single scoring Garvin from 3 rd. John Collins left Calkins and Arguellostranded as he popped up to ODonahue at 2 nd. Bottom of 5 and the lower end of the order continued to struggle as Carlos Toledo hit a fly ball out to left, Bryn Windle looked at 3 moreand sat down and Patrick Renz who came in for Lucas Moulder popped-up to short. Keegan

stayed strong in the bottom half of the 5th

as he managed to get Dudzik to fly out to left, StevenZajic walked, Cameron Otter grounded out to Charlie Wild at short but advanced Zajic tosecond, but with 2 outs, Keegan again sat down Montoya looking. Keegan must have hadMontoyas number as he retired him by way of the strike out route three times for the day.

With the score 8-4 in favor of the Giantsleading into the 6th, Cameron ODonahue gotthe Giants juices flowing with a lead-off double, Charlie Wild singles to up the middleadvancing the lightning fast ODonahue to 3 rd.With runners on the corners, Zajic tries to pick

off Wild but the 1 st baseman, Reep lost thethrow resulting in Wild going to 2 nd andODonahue scoring. Grant Smith was then hit

by a pitch and was awarded 1 st and then CharlieKeegan squared and executed a perfect buntsacrificing himself for Wild and Smith toadvance. Sky Garnick then moosed a ball toleft field over the head of Dudzik scoring bothWild and Smith and stood at 2 nd with a stand updouble. Colter Huhn popped up to the 2 nd

baseman, Collins and then Carlos Toledo got on the merry-go-round and hit a single somewheresafe, batting in Garnick. Bryn Windle followed suit and hit a long single that scored Toledo andRenz hit a ground ball to 2 nd for the 3 rd out. The home half of the inning showed a fatiguingKeegan who walked the lead-off batter Garvin who then advanced to 2 nd somehow, and then to3rd on a wild pitch and then home on another wild one from the mound. Charlie settled downthough without the distraction of a runner on base as he forced Calkins to pop-up to the mound,

then Reep popped-up to ODonahue at 2 nd. The #9 hitter, Arguello walked and here we goagain, advanced to 2 nd on another wild pitch from Keegan. Undeterred, Charlie Keegan workedthe count full against John Collins and then blew one past him to end the threat.

Cam ODonahue again started the inning for the Giants in the top of the seventh as hereached base on an error on the 1 st baseman. Cam then stole 2 nd base easily, Wild walked, Smithcruised a base hit to left scoring ODonahue but that was all for our Hometown Heroes asKeegan grounds out to the mound, Garnick whiffs, Huhn walked and Toledo looked at 3.Charlie Keegan took the mound in the bottom half of the 7 th with a determination to end it for theKnights and although tired, Charlie again managed to keep his opponents off balance enough toforce Dudzik to ground out to short, Zajic to fly out to short and Otter to fly out to left to clinch itfor the Giants for a 14-5 schooling of the Green River squad.

The View From the Cheap Seats-

Our Hometown Heroes seemed to recover nicely from the previous weeks throttling atthe Jackson home tourney. Offensively, the Giants were seeing the ball and hitting.Outstanding efforts on the Jackson squad were Charlie Wild going perfectly with a 3 for 3 outingwith three singles. Grant Smith also impressed the Faithful with a .666 percentage hitting 2 for 3 with a double and a single and Colter Huhn may have woken up from his long winter hibernation with a 2 run bomb, clearing the fence to rally the lads in the 3 rd. There seemed to belittle evidence of bunting particularly in the 3 rd inning where out of 7 at bats, there was 1 single,2 doubles and a homerun. Hitting is contagious and these men can hit if given the opportunity. This was the first of two slated for the day, unfortunately the second game to my knowledge wasnot recorded. According to sources close to this reporter, the Giants fell in the second game toGreen River. Charlie Wild started and Patrick Renz relieved but is unclear as to what had

happened. If the game shows up I will try and plug it into the publishing rotation.
