YEAR 6 EXCURSION TO CANBERRA We have rebooked our Canberra excursion for Term 4 – we are now travelling from Monday 19 – Thursday 22 October, which is Week 2 of Term 4. There will be no change to costs, we are still waiting on the itinerary from our tour company but we will get that to students as soon as possible. Please be assured that we continue to make our decisions based on government guidelines regarding travel, and that we will keep you informed of any changes long the way. However, for now, we are still planning to get on the bus in Term 4. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE I have heard it said that “Culture is created out of the crucible of crisis” and as COVID restrictions begin to lift I have reflected on what we have learned throughout this pandemic. We need to stay connected. We may have to be physically distanced but that doesn’t mean we have to be socially distant or disconnected. Our teachers adapted quickly to requests to keep in regular contact with students and their families. Students sent in photos of them working from home and emailed their teachers questions and ‘check-in’. We need to work in partnership with our parents and caregivers to develop young people who are confident and independent lifelong learners. Isolation and at home learning has been very challenging for some students and their parents. Our priorities have been to help students through the ups and downs and to continue to enjoy and engage in their learning. We need to stay healthy in mind and body. We all have a new appreciation for the safety and security that the routine of school can create. Incorporating daily exercise and managing to cope with the anxieties of the pandemic have forced some of us to call on new strategies to calm and balance our emotions. Over the next few weeks we will be asking parents to reflect on some of the strategies that you feel worked well and would like to continue into the future. Ask your child if there were particular activities or types of learning that worked well for them. Was it the use of technology or maybe the communication with teachers?

PLAYGROUND UPDATE This week, works have begun on our new back playground area. Below is the plan for these works. We are looking forward to this taking shape over the remainder of the term. There will be some times when the back playground will be off-limits to our students but we know that they will look forward to when it re-opens at the beginning of Term 3.

PLANNED MAINTENANCE - ADMIN BLOCK CLOSED FOR TWO WEEKS

Beginning next Monday our Admin block will be closed due to roof repairs and replacement. Our Office will be re-located to the Reading Intervention room just off the Library. During this time we will be unable to process any money and will be limiting any of our usual administration activities. If you require to pick up your child during this time please make a call beforehand. Late arrivals will also need to sign in at the Reading Intervention room. Please ring beforehand so staff can meet you at the gate to assist the children to class. Thank you for your understanding during this time.

CATCH UP DAY FOR SCHOOL PHOTOS

A catch up school photo day has been booked for Tuesday 21 July (First day of Term 3). Envelopes will be delivered to the school for those students who were absent on the original photo day. Envelopes will be sent home with your child once the school receives them late in Term 2. Students must bring this envelope with them on the day if they wish to be photographed. Class (Group) photos will not be taken at this time. Once all photos have been taken, MSP photography will collate portfolios and send these back to the school. Students who have already had their photos taken earlier in the year will receive their pictures once the catch-up photos are finalised.
