The SCMP/IFPHK Financial Planner Awards recognises financial planners who excel in professional knowledge and demonstrate acumen in personal financial planning.

CFPCM, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERCM and are certification marks owned outside the U.S. by Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. The Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong is the marks licensing authority for the CFP marks in Hong Kong and Macau, through agreement with FPSB.

EligibilityOpen to individuals only, who are professional financial planners from banking, independent financial advisory and insurance industry sectors.

Requirement1. Each submitted financial proposal / financial plan must already be ENDORSED by either the Direct Supervisor, Member of the

Senior Management or Human Resources Manager of the applicant. This is to ensure that the financial proposal / financial plan is properly cleared for submission.

2. IMPORTANT: Each applicant must enforce strict confidentiality in regards to all personal particulars about the client in the submitted financial proposal / financial plan. None of these particulars should be disclosed under any circumstances during the competition.

3. Each applicant is required to submit THREE hard copies of the written financial proposal (in powerpoint format) and TWO recent passportsizephotos(nophotocopyorhard-copyprintout)on or before 23 May 2011.

FormatThe Awards is divided into 3 rounds and is conducted either in English/Chinese. Applicant can choose to complete the written financial proposal / financial plan in one language and give an oral presentation in another.

First Round – Financial ProposalApplicants are required to submit a real client’s finanical proposal in powerpoint format (hard copy). The proposal should be within 40 pagesincludingcoverpageandappendices.Itshouldbewrittenin14-pointfontsizeinPowerpoint.The powerpoint submitted in this round will be used for the second round oral presentation.

Second Round – Detailed Financial Plan and Oral Presentation Selected candidates are required to submit a detailed written financial plan of the real client case (maximum of 50 pages, including coverpageandappendices,12-pointfontsize)beforetheoralpresentationandpresentthefinancialplantothejudgesinaroleplay format. Both the detailed written financial plan and oral presentation contribute to the final mark in this round. The weighting is 30%:70%.

The top winner from each industry sector will be selected to enter the final round.

Final Round – Written Financial Proposal and PresentationThe 3 finalists are provided with a case study of a client and are required to prepare a financial proposal (in powerpoint format) of their recommendations with the given conditions or scenarios. The finalists will also be tested on application of financial planning knowledge and strategies during the final round presentation.

JudgingThefollowingcriteriaandweightingswillbeusedforjudginginallthreerounds.

CriteriaAssessment of the three rounds will be based on the six steps of personal financial planning process:

1. Establishing client-planner relationships

2. Gathering client data and determining goals and expectations

3. Determiningtheclient’sfinancialstatusbyanalyzingandevaluatingclient’sinformation

4. Developing and presenting the financial plan

5. Implementing the financial plan

6. Monitoring the financial plan

(applicants are required to provide the risk analysis documents when submitting the detailed financial plan)

Recommendations 25% To support the analysis for the recommendations and provide alternatives to the clients Suitability of Advice 10% To evaluate the planner has provided appropriate recommendations that meet the

objectives, goals and risk tolerance level of the clients Discretion 10% To measure the clarity of the overall presentation of the financial proposal / financial

plan Total: 100%
