SCIS BUZZ

NOVEMBER 2018

Volume 8, Issue 8

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Dear Children,

The obvious implication of

Children’s day is that it needs to be

celebrated in a befitting manner,

such as to leave indelible impression

in the young minds. All schools try

to ensure this occasion is

memorable. Let me emphasize that

this is how it should be and such

traditions should maintained.

Children, after all are extremely

important component of any

Nation. The potential in them has

to be nurtured till they evolve and the dynamic energy must be

channeled constructively till they can become agents of change.

Unfortunately, this is limited to quarter of the children in our

country. For most, Children’s Day has little or no relevance. They

live in obscurity and are often famished and deprived. For them

abuse and even sexual abuse is a pattern they have come to accept.

Child labor is a harsh reality, which we conveniently choose to

ignore. The lives of such children are shattered at birth and they

are confined to destitution. They have no energy to offer and they

seek your compassion.

I will request all of you to look within yourselves and be

observant. Try and equate your demand for food or material with

that of the unfortunate children. It is a disturbing thought and

convenient to ignore. Searching for solutions will incite our

senses and passion. Compassion is at premium and violence

excites us. More than football, the violent video game is more

enthralling. We need passion to address this problem.

I will insist that all of you pursue activities which impact your

health and mind in positive way. We cannot remain passive

spectators to injustice that other children are subjected to.

Individually, the task looks difficult. But a single thought leads to

exchange of thoughts .It gathers momentum slowly. Within years

it can form into an avalanche that can usher in a change. You all

can do it.

As for today it is your day, enjoy the moment. All the teachers

have adjusted there busy schedule and put in tremendous effort

make this a memorable occasion.

Warm Regards,

John Andrew Bagul

VISIT TO TOLLY HOME

On the 1st of November, four students, including myself, visited the Tollygunge Homes accompanied by two senior teachers. This visit to the old age

home was a part of the outreach program of The Interact Club of South City International School. On arrival at the center’s gate, we felt as if we

had entered a safe haven, away from the hassles of city life. The serenity and calmness of the place put our minds at ease. Beautiful villas dotted the

campus, with nature snuggling up to the man-made structures. As soon as we entered the dining area we were greeted by a host of warm, inviting

smiles. Their toothy grins and hearty laughter made us feel completely welcome. We played and sang a few songs for the inmates who seemed to gen-

uinely enjoy the melodies. They later thanked us for our attempts to entertain them. We had taken along with us food packets to provide them with

lunch. We distributed the food packets among the inmates and watched as they smiled at the food, which was a fresh change from their usual diet. As

they ate, we went around interacting with them, and realized that most of them had been teachers in their youth and greatly enjoy the company of

youngsters. They were very appreciative and blessed each of us individually. Then, to our surprise, they made us sit with them and share the meal.

Their generosity and appreciation warmed our hearts. So, after a hearty meal, we spoke some more with the aged inmates of Tollygunge homes be-

fore leaving with mixed feelings. We felt empathy, because of the isolated condition of these wonderful, kind, generous, and experienced individuals.

But we also felt content, having be able to infuse a few hours of joy into the otherwise mundane lifestyle of the inmates.

Overall, it was a wonderful learning experience and we would encourage all students to reach out to such people. The smiles we created that day

were priceless and I would like to thank Principal Sir of giving us the opportunity to experience such a wonderful phenomenon. I wish to be a part of

such endeavors in the future as well.

VISIT TO LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR

On 3rd November 2018, in the receding rays of the setting sun, with its last shadows falling on the blue and white painted arches of the impressive

building, we felt that if we have never known the power of God’s love, then may be, it is because we have never asked to know it. We stood at the

door way of Little Sisters of the Poor, at A.J.C.Bose Road.

We, the teachers (Mondira Ma’am, Victor Sir, Moumita S Ma’am and Sushmita M Ma’am) with four students (Nayan Pagaria, Yash Chaturvedi,

Anshika Roy and Rishav Rathi) received a warm welcome from Sister Joseena ande Sister Maria of the Home. It was then 5.10 p.m.

This visit was initiated by our Principal, Mr.John Andrew Bagul, who suggested that the food packets sponsored by Indian Oil Corporation to be

served to 130 Residents and 40 staff members of the Home during the visit. We acted accordingly.

Sister Joseena escorted and ushered us into the main Pantry. She never stopped giving relevant information about the Home, its inmates and its reg-

ular work culture. Food packets were then kept on the trolley, deftly helped by our students and our teachers. We were then guided to the indi-

vidual living quarter of the inmates and then to the dining room. There after the prayer and a brief welcome speech, food packets were served to the

old and infirm inmates. If this is called happiness and contentment, it was so. Joyous smiles filled the air. They all relished the food. Each one of them

thanked and blessed us. Some kissed our foreheads and cheeks, some held our hands for eternity! We felt that they did find consolation in their clos-

ing years as the Little Sisters continue their humanitarian work of caring, sharing, loving and holding them close to their heart.

While interacting with the inmates we found some were teachers, some chefs in the army, some Government officials and some nothing but

BURDENS” to their families. It was heart rending. Sister Joseena took us around from floor to floor, then to the in-house Chapel and auditorium.

We were left mesmerized by the well maintenance of the Home. Everything is meticulously taking care of, from Doctors’ regular visits, Dieticians’

special diet charts to staging programmes on special days, celebrating Christmas and New Years. We found that the Sisters –in-Charge look after

every single detail with meticulous dedication. Sisters requested us to organize programme for the inmates especially by the students. It is the best

way to bring out the hidden talents in the inmates.

Donations and sponsorship, Sisters said, come from all quarters for the smooth running of the Home. Charitable organizations, schools, NGOS

extend their generosity to help such Homes. With their helping hands and collaboration, these elderly people receive attention and loving care. We

understood that to be philanthropic and assertively charitable is a great job.

The evening slowly came to an end with amicable encounters of the inmates of the Home and us. We promised the Sisters to visit the Home again.

With a heavy heart we left. The words of the Sisters and inmates, their thankfulness especially to our Principal, teachers and students and our fam-

ilies reverberated deep in our hearts.

We stepped out of the Home but stepped into a new world of peace and unity, mercy and divine grace.

Diwali – Festival of Light

ONE NATION READING TOGETHER

Classes I- V

The Pledge- Which was take by all the Students

The time has come, The little child said, To pick up a storybook To leap to lands That

enchant us To worlds that are so grand. Let’s live the life of whales and sharks While we

dive into oceans deep. Let’s climb high mountains, Ride on trains, For we have dreams

to sleep. But wait for us, the little ones cried, Before we take our nap, We cannot read, we cannot read Won’t you take us in your lap? So the big ones

picked the little ones up, And held them close to heart, And together they spun the world of words and magic ked their lives up. A world of words.
