•Category Aggregate DataFrom the Category Selection page and subsequent summary page or from any journal Full Record you can opt to view category-level data.

• Key Category Data/Summary View - Total Cites, Median Impact Factor, Aggregate Impact Factor, Aggregate Immediacy Index, Aggregate Half-Life, Number of Journals, and Total Articles (for JCR year).

• Category Full Record Data also covers Calculations for Aggregate Impact Factor & Aggregate Immediacy Index, Aggregate Cited Half-Life & Graph, Citing Half-Life & Graph, Aggregate Source Data, and a Publication Frequency Chart.

• Category Detail Listings are available from the Full Record for Citing and Cited Category tables and Category to Journal Relatedness tables.

•Related JournalsThe frequency that one journal cites or is cited by another is factored against the body of citable items from one journal and the body of references (citing activity) in the other.

•Plus: Source Data count for ‘Other Items’ added; Edition-Specific Scope Notes for 2003 & 2004 (no back years); Country/Territory Heading addresses concerns related to UK listings, etc.

Journal Citation Reports® Notices

• Welcome to Journal Citation Reports®, a unique Web-based research tool that allows you to evaluate and compare journals using citation data drawn from over 7,500 scholarly and technical journals from more than 3,300 publishers in over 60 countries. Journal Citation Reports is the only source of citation data on journals, and includes virtually all specialties in the areas of science, technology, and social sciences.

• The new user interface design for Journal Citation Reports now conforms to that of the other products in ISI Web of Knowledge.

• New subject category level data provide easy access to broad content that will enhance your journal evaluations. The new data include median and aggregate impact factors, aggregate immediacy index, aggregate half-life, citation and article totals, as well as other detailed graphs and listings.

• New related journal data provide insight on relevant journals beyond citation rates alone, factoring in journal size and the body of references output annually. These data have been added for journals cited more than 100 times in a JCR year. Related journals have a cited and citing relationship with a given title or subject category.

• Source data include new data. In addition to the number of articles and reviews published, JCR source data will also display the number of all other published items.

• Scope notes for subject categories available in JCR are now specific to the JCR edition year beginning with 2003 and going forward. Previously they were accessible only through the Thomson Scientific Web site.

•A typical user may enter JCR via the Subject Category Selection option

•Blue & Yellow icons distinguish view type

•Choose to view results by journal or by category.

•Select more than one with Shift-Click or Ctrl-Click.

Category Aggregate Data – Total Cites & Articles

•Example:

•Cites to the 15 allergy journals in the 2003 JCR summed = 48,966 Total Cites for Allergy.

•Article counts for the same journals = 1680 Allergy articles.

•From Journal Summary for Allergy journals.



Category Aggregate Data – Median Impact

•Example:

•When the 15 allergy journals are sorted by impact factor, the value for the journal ranked in the 8th position is the midpoint or median impact factor for Allergy.

•Example: From the full record of each allergy journal obtain citation and article values used to calculate journal impact factors, sum these values, and use them to calculate aggregate.

Category Aggregate Data – Aggregate Half-Life

•Example: From the Cited (or Citing) Journal Listing of each allergy journal obtain total values per year (and the overall total), sum the yearly values for the first row, then use the overall total to calculate percentages in the 2nd row.



Category Aggregate & Revised Source Data

•Unique to the Category Full Record, journal frequency is charted.

•Example: From source data on the Full Record of each allergy journal obtain values per published item type and sum.

•New tabular format

•New data column for Other Item types.



Category Aggregate – Detailed Listings

•Data in the Cited and Citing & Citing Journal Listings are not simply sums of the published lists for each allergy journal. Because listings have a threshold of 2 cites, data for journals cited or citing once are compiled for category listings.

Related Journals - Help

•Also in at the bottom of the Help page on Related Journals, find a reference to an article on this type of calculation designed to normalize absolute citation rates (as shown in Citing and Cited Journal Listings) while illustrating the strength of journal to journal relationships.



Related Journals – Calculation, Limits, Display

To calculate, take the JCR year listed Journal A cites to Journal B times 10 to the 6th power (. Divide by the result by Journal B articles multiplied by Journal A references published. Similarly, calculate citations from related Journal B to Journal A times 10 to the 6th power and divide this by the result of Journal A articles multiplied by Journal B references published.
