Agricultural research, development and on-ground adoption is fast-paced and continuously changing. Science, technology and business strategies underpin the agriculture of the future, and inspiring students to continue their studies in this dynamic and exciting field is paramount for the future of our food.

This one-day program offered by the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment aims to provide teachers of the HSC agriculture syllabus with inspiration for the classroom. This includes content, case studies, experiments, teaching strategies and dealing with difficult dot points; as well as insights into the latest agricultural research being conducted at the University of Sydney and access to experts in particular areas of the curriculum.

The day will provide opportunities for networking and facilitated discussions to learn from fellow teachers as well as the friendly staff of the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment and the University of Sydney Business School.

This is the inaugural Science Teachers Workshop for Earth and Environmental Science at the University of Sydney. The Earth sciences provide a unifying framework for addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing society – including climate change and rising sea levels, energy, mineral resources and natural hazards.

Our staff are experts in these fields, and will provide participants with valuable resources, regional and global case studies and open-access computer tools to complement existing resources at NSW schools, maximising student performance and engagement with the syllabus.

In addition, the workshops will provide valuable networking opportunities, as well as insight into our research and field-based activities to help inform students of future study and career pathways in the Geosciences.

The lectures and workshops are delivered by academic staff from the School of Geosciences at The University of Sydney, some of whom have been involved in writing the Earth and Environmental Science HSC textbook, and so will provide insight into strategies to prepare students for their HSC exams and future university studies.

The Science Teacher’s Workshop –Geography aims to provide NSW Geography teachers with practical curriculum insights into tertiary sector Geography. We will introduce teachers to cutting edge research of Geography scholars at the University of Sydney. The day will also provide an excellent opportunity for networking and learning from each other.

This one-day Geography program combines lectures and workshops to supplement the HSC Geography syllabus. The lectures and workshops are provided from the Geography academic staff of the School of Geosciences. This year we will provide teachers with an introduction to the integrated Geography program at the University of Sydney.

Our geography program investigates the complex interactions between human and physical processes. Our workshops will be based around the themes of “People and Economic Activities” and “Ecosystems at Risk”. Using case studies from our region our workshops bring unique insights into our cutting edge research that grapples with contemporary global issues. The workshops also provide insights into our extensive fieldwork-based research.

The two-day Physics program includes plenary lectures and a Nobel Lecture on the theme of the Science Teachers’ Workshop and cutting-edge research followed by a choice of workshops. On registration, participants will be asked to select four sessions (two each day).

On the first afternoon there will be a ‘Meet-a-Physicist’ and Poster session, a tour of the Sydney Nanoscience Hub, and a conference dinner combined with an exciting trivia night.

Workshop topics are split into two streams; one stream will include the core modules as well as option modules including ‘Quanta to Quarks’ and ‘Medical Physics’. New sessions in this stream will provide tips and tricks for new physics teachers and adjusting a current core module in light of the upcoming syllabus changes.

The second workshop stream is designed to introduce teachers to the latest research coming from the School of Physics as well as looking at important transition periods for students, adjusting experimental designs and equity and diversity in high school physics cohorts.
