• A new crown was made for a King. But he suspected that it was not made of pure gold as the goldsmith put some copper metal into the crown. He may have done this to steal some of the gold but keep the grown same weight as the gold the King had given to the goldsmith.

• Archimedes then weighed the two crowns and found that the new bigger crown weighed more than the old one. Nevertheless he said that the new crown had some lighter metal in it.
