WHY KNOWLEDGE OF SCIENCE IS NECESSARY?

What is Science?

Science is the systematic way of doing any work.

What is knowledge?

What is the general meaning of Science?

Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Environment Science, Earth Science, Materials Science, Geographical Science etc.

Page 3: Science Ppt

Knowledge obtained through the study of science subjects is the mother of all discoveries and inventions in applied fields of engineering and technology, life sciences etc.

What is the aim to gather this knowledge?

To apply the knowledge to make the living comfortable for everybody.

Why do you go for higher studies?

For comfortably and peaceful living.

Page 4: Science Ppt

Why good students are not joining higher studies in science subjects?

What will happen if good students do not join higher education in science?

New knowledge will not be generated and further developments in all the applied fields will come to stand still.

Why do we need more knowledge about science subjects?

How much knowledge do we have at present?

Page 5: Science Ppt

How much knowledge do we have at present?

Human beings, animals, birds and plants, water, our own planet earth, universe, atoms, molecules etc.

Let’s consider human beings, animals, birds etc. How much do we know about our own body?

At present, we know only about 2% of our body system. Our body system is an amazing system but our knowledge about it is very-very limited. At present, medicine people are able to understand the effect of certain chemicals on our body by hit and trial method only. However, we don’t understand why a particular chemical is effective in a certain problem.

Page 6: Science Ppt

5000 different chemicals are formed in our body at different places and in exact quantity. We don’t know how it is happening in our body.

With all developments and progress in life science, it has not been possible to duplicate even a small part of our body working as efficiently as natural one.

We have five senses: sight, sound, taste, touch and smell. All the senses work simultaneously and send signals to the brain. At present, we do not have much information about the functioning of the brain. We even don’t understand how a thought is generated in the brain.

Scientists speculate that cells communicate with each-other and the function of our body is the result of this communication. Till to-date we don’t understand how the cells communicate with each other. When the cells stop communicating, our body is declared as dead.

How and why the cells stop communicating?

Our body develops according to the genetic code of DNA in each cell of human beings. Every individual person has a unique DNA code, which never matches with any other person. We don’t understand how DNA code is written in the body cells.

Scientists believe that our universe was created with one enormous explosion which we call the Big Bang. This was the start of the universe, space and time.

What cause this explosion?

Scientists do not have any explanation for the sudden explosion of light, energy and matter.

Recently, the scientists have claimed to find a particle called God Particle (Higgs Boson), which is responsible for all creation.

The fact is that we are simply trying to understand how this universe was created.

The earth is located at a fix distance from the sun. Even a factional variance in the position of earth with respect to the sun would make life on earth impossible.

The earth is rotating around the sun at a speed of nearly 1,07,300 km/hr. It is also rotated on its axis at a speed of 1674.4 km/hr.

Our moon is also of perfect size and at a perfect distance from the earth to cause just exact gravitational pull to create ocean tides and movement of water in the ocean.

We don’t know why it is so perfect for us?

Nature has provided us with water. It’s a unique substance and no living thing can survive without water. Why?

Water has high surface tension value and this property helps water to flow upward against gravity in plants. But we are not able to understand clearly how water along with nutrients reaches the top of a very tall tree.

Each atom has neutrons, protons and electrons. Electrons are moving in well defined orbits around the nucleus, which contains neutrons and protons. The scientists have learnt quite a lot about atom but they are still not able to explain how and why the electrons are able to move around the nucleus in precise orbits as the balance is very delicate.

Whatever progress we have made in engineering and technology is simply the outcome of the application of the knowledge obtained from basic science subjects.

If we do not continue to evolve new knowledge from basic science subjects, it will not be possible to make any further progress and to find answers to so many questions as discussed earlier. Deep understanding of basic sciences can lead to make this world comfortable and peaceful for living.
