Research Log
• Must be a binded spiral or composition notebook any size (Keep next to project)
• Must include at least 3 pictures of you doing the project (set-up, conducting, & final)
• Must document all contact you have with your project– Must include Date. Time, amounts if applicable,
and any measurements or other source of information
General Guidelines• Color = White Paper, Font Size =12 point• Paper Size = 8.5 X 11, Type Color = Black• Font Style = Times Roman or Courier• Margins = 1” on all 4 sides• Spacing = Double Spaced & One Sided• Use parenthesis to cite references• Page numbering = Short Title then Number in the
Upper right hand corner• Order of Pages= Title Page, Abstract, Introduction,
Review & Discussion, Conclusion, Appendix, References
• Binding Paper = 1 staple extreme upper left corner
Quotations, Tables, Graphs
• Paraphrase when possible• Long Quotations (40 or more words) indent entire
quote five spaces followed by citation• Short Quotations incorporated in text• Appendix Page for Table, Graphs, Charts, etc.• In paper citations --”after quotes ( Smith, pgs 20-
24) or for Web Sites (Smith, March 2006) or (Specific website, March 2006)
• Authors name & year (ND-is used for no date)
Short Title
• Capitalized & Before each page number
• 1st three words of the full title
• Do not use the words-(the, a, an)
• Space 5 times then page #
• Same Short Title along with consecutive page numbers should be on every page of the student’s research paper

• 20 single spaces down from short title & centered• Full Title of Research Paper• Student’s First Middle & Last Name• Everglades High School • November 17 2011 or date Paper Completed if
turned in early.
Introduction (1-Page)
• Centered Capitalized Full Title of the Report• (Double spaced down from Short Title & Page #)• The student explains the nature of and/or purpose
for doing the research paper.• What is the problem? What are you trying to
determine, How are you planning to set up your experiment? What are your expectations?, Choose 2 references that relate to your research and describe their relationship, What do you plan to learn or be able to do?
Review & Discussion (1-3 Pages)• Capitalized & Centered double spaced after Short title &
page #• All the information for references are cited reviewed &
discussed, use 5 references (4 website & 1 book)• Paraphrase information in your own writing style keep
quotes to a bare minimum• Discuss the experiment, where did you setup and for how
long, procedures, hypothesis, materials, related research or information, what happened during your experiment?What did you observe?what data did you obtain (Use T1- to organize table, G1- to organize graph, P1- to organize pictures, C1-to organize charts, etc)
• Discuss all pictures, tables, charts, graphs, etc.
Review & Discussion (1-3 Pages) Cont.
• Examples:• After testing five plants for two months I photographed the
height of the plants before and after the experiment, (appendix P1 & P4). I noticed that plant 1 did the best growing to a height of 15cm while plant 4 did the worst growing only 5 cm.
• The plants growth are further compared to each other showing how plant 1 grew 3 times as much as plant 4 and 2 times as much as plant 2, (G2 Appendix)
• I ran a control which was plant 4 which received no pesticides
Conclusion (1 Page)
• Capitalized, & Centered doubled spaced down from the short title & page #
• Student derives and infers from the information obtained from the entire research, How was information related, affected, & corresponded to the original purpose and/or nature which guided the research

• Student will summarize research. • 1st paragraph sentences from introduction,
1st paragraph from review discussion, & first & last paragraph from conclusion
• What did you want to learn? What did you learn after the research?
Appendix (1-3 pages)
• Capitalized & Centered double spaced down from short title & page #
• Includes all tables, graphs, charts, pictures, etc.• You can reduce the size of very large pictures,
tables, charts, or graphs • Include captions with a brief description of
pictures, charts, etc…Look at textbook for ideas on how to write captions.
References (1-2 pages)
• Capitalized & Centered double spaced after the short title and page #
• All references are using APA style• Alphabetical Order• Each line after the 1st line is indented five spaces• Includes pages where information was found• APA Website www.citefast.com• Fill out Steps 1-4, Cut and paste information
displayed under step 5 to your reference page
