How does water acidity affect health waters pH scale?
Did you know water covers around 70% of the Earth’s
surface? However, the water crisis is the #1 global risk based
on impact to society. On this paper, you will learn all about
water and the risk of high levels of alkalinity or acidity
levels caused by water contamination and other factors.
What is Water? Water is a colorless, tasteless and
odorless substance that is essential to tall forms of life
that we know of, we can find it in many places and forms.
PH scale is short for potential hydrogen, which is the
standard scientific measure for levels of acidity
or alkalinity in organic material. PH levels range from 0 to
14, where 0-7 is considered alkaline and everything above 7
2
is considered acid.
An acid is a substance that gives hydrogen ions. For
this reason, when an acid is dissolved in water, the
equilibrium between hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions is
loosened. And when there are more hydrogen ions than hydroxide
ions in the solution, this becomes an acidic solution. Some
acid-forming foods include most grains, beans, meats, dairy
products, fish, fast foods and processed foods. When we eat
acid-forming foods, our body has to work hard to bring our
blood pH back into balance. It does this by releasing
alkaline-rich minerals such as calcium, phosphorus and
magnesium into our bloodstream.
A base is a substance that accepts hydrogen ions. This
is the opposite of acids, the equilibrium between hydrogen
ions and hydroxide ions changes the contrary way. Alkaline
diets can bring many benefits, some of them are fewer cold,
cancer prevention, and healthy weight.
Some alkaline-forming foods include most fruits, vegetables,
herbs, nuts, seeds and herbal teas. We must know, that if we
3
are not eating enough alkaline-forming foods, then our body
has to pull these important minerals from our bones, teeth
and organs. However, this can compromise our immune system,
cause fatigue and make us vulnerable to viruses and disease.
To conclude, it is important to know the water pH level
so we can control the intake of acids and prevent further
diseases.
