Construction Strategy

• Maximize the amount of IceCube instrumentation that can be safely installed at the South Pole in each austral summer season

– Installation should not be limited by the availability of instrumentation– Critical path is the drilling of holes

• Construction schedule constraints:– South Pole construction season limited to the austral summer and often impacted by weather conditions– Limits on the number of flights to the Pole (cargo space)– Limit on the number of people that can be supported at the pole
