  • Clarence “Peach” Schuller, 97, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2020 at the Emmetsburg Care Center.

Peach was born on November 24, 1923 in Mallard, Iowa to Ray and Loretta (Conlon) Schuller. He attended the St. Mary's Parochial School through the 10th grade and graduated from the Mallard High School in 1940. After high school he began farming with his father on the family farm. Clarence was joined in marriage to Ella Mae Schneider from West Bend, Iowa, November 27, 1945, in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, West Bend, with Rev. Paul Dobberstein officiating. In 1946, Peach and Ella Mae took over the family farm in Mallard. Clarence and Ella Mae were loving parents to six children, Judy, Diane, Richard, Galen, Gary and Jerome. Peach continued farming, sold O’s Gold seed corn and became a rural letter carrier for Mallard. He retired from farming in 1983, and from the postal service in 1990. For many years he delivered mail on his 6 days a week, 120-mile route, and was known for giving bubble gum to all the kids. As a young man, Peach was an avid baseball player and boxer. He and his brother, Ervin would spend many hours sparring, training and perfecting their skills. It has been said that he had a devastating left hook. He would do chin-ups on the door frames of the old farm house for strength training and continued doing them well into his later years, performing a few for his grandchildren Conlon and Ryan, at the age of 89.Peach was an accomplished poet and harmonica player who was known for his song and verse, his quick wit and Irish charm. He always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye, and he was loved for his kind heart and devotion to family, friends and community alike. He loved playing cards and he especially enjoyed playing golf. He was a founding member of the Mallard Country Club and spent countless days in pursuant of the perfect game. He would spend many hours and every opportunity improving the course and facilities. He is survived by his loving wife Ella Mae and children: Diane Goodwin (Dave) and Jerome (Janell Edwards); grandchildren Tom Lincoln, Todd Lincoln, Tracy Patten, Amy (Kelly) McKeown, Michael Kelly, Conlon Schuller and Ryan Schuller; and 7 great grandchildren and sister Esty Fogarty. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Loretta; brothers Cyril and Ervin; and children Judy Howard (Bill), Richard, Galen, and Gary.
