Keep-In-Touch

Issue Twelve 26.6.20

Developing our people Nurturing our differences Aspiring for excellence

Dear Parents and Carers,

Although there has not been a formal announcement

from the Government about September yet, the

general comments made by senior ministers indicate

that it is likely that schools will be open for all children

in September.

We are planning on this basis at the moment and in

the next several weeks, we will be writing to all

families with arrangements subject to the Government

confirming that this is the official plan.

We really do hope that we are allowed to welcome

everyone back very soon.

Thurrock Libraries are running their summer

reading challenge as usual and details are provided

below. Do encourage your children to take part.

Reading is the key to success for sure!

Ms Pumfrey and the Leadership Teams in our schools

Thurrock Libraries’ Summer

Reading Challenge

Thurrock Libraries run a very

popular Summer Reading

Challenge every year and usually come in to school to

lead an assembly about the event. This year they are

launching it online. Please follow this link to see a

short video the library staff have made about this

event https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypZHxnQ-

izI&t=205s

The video contains information about how to book

places for a free Zoom storytelling session of The Twits

by John Kirk, a professional storyteller. To sign up for

the Summer Reading Challenge, please go to

Road Safety

In the Summer Term, Thurrock

Council’s Road Safety Team

usually come in to schools and work with our

Reception and Year 5 pupils as well as take them out

on a road safety walk. This year, they have made

presentations which you can share with your children

at home. Although they are aimed at Reception and

Year 5, they can be used with children of any age.

International Joke Day 1st July

As it is International Joke Day on

Wednesday next week, we thought

we would invite CHILDREN from any

of our primary schools to send in a joke to

[email protected]

We will compile all those sent in and create a SWECET

Primary Joke Sheet for next week’s KIT edition.

Please help us to make everyone laugh out loud by

sending in your best jokes.

News Links for Children

In school each week, teachers use

a range of news stories to keep

children aware of the wider world, interest them in

what is happening and to develop their general

knowledge and interest.

While we are closed, you may wish to use these links

with your children to read the stories together and to

discuss them.

In pictures: Rare solar eclipse darkens Asia on the

summer solstice - BBC News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-53120704 Some brilliant pictures to share with the whole family.

What has life been like at a zoo since lockdown? - BBC

News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-cambridgeshire-53138058/coronavirus-shepreth-wildlife-park-staff-record-life-during-lockdown Everyone loves an animal story. There are great

images and opportunities to discuss how the current

situation has affected zoos. These are opening soon,

of course.
