It is hard to believe that another year has flown by and the 2016 bull sale season is upon us. Our family is once again flattered and appreciative of the interest in this year’s offering. We have been blessed and thankful for the outcomes which have resulted from the transitions and changes over the last few years. We are excited about the long term goals and vision which we have put in place for our breeding program. Most importantly, the cow/calf sector remains a bright spot in the production agriculture world. Even though we are not currently at the historic price levels which have been seen in the last 18 months, the cow/calf sector is still realizing significant profitability.

We are thankful for the cooperators that we work with. Relationships with good people are always rewarding. We appreciate their efforts in helping meet our growing demand needs. We will lean on them harder in the future as our volume contract program gains traction as well.

Modern framed, easy keeping, easy handling cattle that perform with favorable convenience traits, will always be the priority at Schrader Ranch. Consistency and uniformity fit firmly in that mix as well. Therefore, regardless of breed or breed percentages, our philosophy remains similar throughout.

We would like to thank all the staff at Suther Feeds and Direct Link. We truly appreciate all that our relationship with Suther’s has done for us over the years. From an industry standpoint, they have supplied valuable information. We have had a valued relationship for 16 years and look to extend that for years to come.

Directions On I-35 - From Concordia - South 30 miles to Limestone Road/Wells Road or

From Salina - North 20 miles to Limestone Road/Wells Road Turn East on Limestone Road (It is also marked as Wells to the East). Once you turn east, follow the blacktop about 10 miles through the curves as the road eventually turns straight north and becomes 210th. The ranch is located on the east side of the corner of 210th and Oxbow

From Clay Center - Go South 9 miles on 15 Hwy to the Oakhill blacktop road and turn west. (There is a power station on the East). Go west about 22 miles where a big curve will take you South. From the curve, Oxbow Rd is about 5 miles South. The ranch is on the East side of the road.

From Bennington (Hwy 18) - Take Nelson street north (which is the main street) about 7 miles to the first stop sign. Continue north another two miles to the second stop sign. Turn east onto Limestone road. Follow the curves (about 6 miles eventually going straight north) to Oxbow Road. The ranch sits on the east side.

Sale ProcedureAll bulls will be given a base price. Any bulls having multiple buyer interest will be bid off. Otherwise, bulls with single buyer interest can be purchased at the base price.

Carcass InformationA supplement sheet of ultrasound results will be posted on our website - www.schraderranch.com and available sale day.

Sight-Unseen Purchased Bulls If you are unable to attend, we will be happy to help purchase bulls on order with a guarantee of satisfaction. All we ask is that you give us plenty of advance notice prior to the sale to fully discuss possibilities.

Delivery or “Pick-up” Discount A $50 per bull discount is available to buyers who take their purchases home sale day. Otherwise, free delivery will be offered up to 300 miles from Schrader Ranch. Beyond that, we will assist to the best of our ability with travel arrangements.

Insurance We will do everything in our power to ensure a safe environment for bulls until they go to their new homes. However, after the conclusion of the bid-off, the cattle become property of the buyer. Insurance options will be available sale day.

EPD DEFINITIONS

EPD Definitions and Terms

Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPDs of +10 and -5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPDs is knowing in what units they are expressed. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPDs, sire A would be expected to sire 15 pounds more weaning weight than sire B. If calving ease was the trait, sire A would be expected to sire 15 percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if sire B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we would expect sire A to require 15 assists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPDs rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes, visit www.simmental.org. Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers.

Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight.

Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight.

Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight.

Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.

Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight at 475 days.

Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters.

Yield Grade (YG): Carcass yield grade score at 475 days.

Marbling (MRB): Carcass marbling score at 475 days.

Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of carcass ribeye at 475 days.

Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a ribeye steak.

All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose-sire scenario. (See $ Indexes for more details.)
