Welcome!

Introduction to the 2014 Schools’ Prom

This year’s Schools’ Prom once again celebrates and offers opportunities to showcase some of the work across the arts that children and young people take part in throughout the year both in and outside school. Over the two evenings you will see just a small selection of this work that includes a signing choir from Hanson School. You will also hear our now regular larger Primary Schools’ Chorus involving 19 schools over the two nights, providing over 260 pupils each night with the opportunity to perform on this most prestigious stage here at St George’s Hall. The two nights offer around 800 pupils from schools around the Bradford District a stunning venue in which to show off their talents while providing you, the audience, with just a taster of the exciting and creative activities that take place in schools across the Bradford District. A huge thanks goes to all the people who have worked so hard to make this year’s Schools’ Prom yet another big success. I hope you enjoy this evening’s entertainment. Paul Makin Assistant Director Children’s Services

Massed KS2 Brass & Percussion Ensemble We are delighted to join together 8 schools who are currently involved in the Key Stage 2 First Access scheme. This provides whole classes with an initial taste of playing an instrument, while developing wider musical skills. These schemes, generally provided by the Music & Arts Service, are in place in most primary schools in the Bradford district, on a vast range of instruments from ukulele to samba. Students are able to continue their playing through continuation schemes in schools, small group lessons, and by joining one of the Music Service groups. Particularly relevant for tonight’s performers are the Junior Brass Band, Junior Wind Bands and Batteria Percussion group. For further details please contact the Music & Arts Service on 01274 385555.

Bingley Grammar Percussion Group ‘Drumline’ There are 9 performers, from years 7, 8 and 9. The performance is visual, aural and technically challenging.

They will be showcasing a 7 minute performance through a Bhangra group. Here students (5 years old plus) have created a special dance routine which incorporates live instruments from Dhol Drums to Punjabi Farmland props such as a dang (tall herding stick) and role plays. The students will be wearing bright and colourful traditional Indian outfits and will be dancing barefoot.

Bradford District Schools’ Orchestra The Bradford District Schools’ Orchestra consists of approximately 80 students having instrumental lessons across the district. They have come together to form a large orchestra for a one off performance especially for the Prom. CIRCLE OF LIFE From the day we arrive on the planet And blinking, step into the sun There's more to see than can ever be seen More to do than can ever be done There's far too much to take in here More to find than can ever be found But the sun rolling high Through the sapphire sky Keeps great and small on the endless round It's the Circle of Life and it moves us all Through despair and hope, through faith and love Till we find our place on the path unwinding In the Circle, The Circle of Life It's the Circle of Life and it moves us all Through despair and hope, through faith and love Till we find our place on the path unwinding In the Circle, The Circle of Life

FAME Baby you look at me and tell me what you see You ain't seen the best of me yet Give me time, I'll make you forget the rest I've got more in me and you can set it free I can catch the moon in my hand Don't you know who I am? Remember my name Fame, I'm gonna live forever I'm gonna learn how to fly, (High) I feel it coming together People will see me and cry Fame, I'm gonna make it to heaven Light up the sky like a flame Fame, I'm gonna live forever Baby, remember my name (Remember, remember, remember, remember) (Remember, remember, remember, remember) Baby hold me tight, 'cause you can make it right You can shoot me straight to the top Give me love and take all I've got to give Baby I'll be tough, too much is not enough, no I'll grab your heart till it breaks You got what it takes Fame, I'm gonna live forever I'm gonna learn how to fly, (High) I feel it coming together People will see me and cry Fame, I'm gonna make it to heaven Light up the sky like a flame Fame, I'm gonna live forever Baby, remember my name (Remember, remember, remember, remember) (Remember, remember, remember, remember) REPEAT CHORUS.
