On Wednesday we enjoyed visiting with our awesome parent volunteers at ourannual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast. Thank you to all those who were able toattend! Through April 30 of this year, 719 of our parents have volunteered over17,000 hours! What would we have done without those committed parents? Nextyear we are looking forward to streamlining the Serve10 process and offering evenmore volunteer opportunities as our elementary school comes online. Attention Rising 9th Graders and HS Students Interested in BeingPart of a Service Organization at the High SchoolPlease consider joining Key Club next year. If you are not familiar with Key Club, it isa nationally recognized service club, and being a member of the club can provide youwith service opportunities and leadership experience. Students are required toperform 50 hours of service work during our Key Club year (starting May, 2017 andending in early May of 2018- the exact day will be given in August). Fifteen of the fiftyhours must be school related or projects posted on Schoology. Documentation formsfor your projects must be taken and verified at the time of service; you can find theforms in Schoology group H37BJ-PM274. Parents are not allowed to signdocumentation forms unless they are the only point of contact. Get started early; thesummer is a great time to get most of your hours completed. Documentation formsare due immediately following service projects. ALL SUMMER HOURS WILL BEDUE AT OUR FIRST MEETING. Hours throughout the year will have deadlineseach quarter, dates will be stated on the Club application. Applications will beavailable in the Key Club Schoology group in August and dues (usually around $20,to pay for national, state, and local dues) will be collected when school starts back inSeptember. Final Report CardsWe are quickly approaching the end of the school year. Final report cards of the yearare to be mailed on June 14, 2017 to the primary address on file for each student. Ifyou have had a recent address change, please send an email by June 1 with the oldAND new addresses to [email protected] for the MS or [email protected] forthe HS. If you require an additional report card copy, please make arrangements byemailing Jane or Jennifer by June 1.

Recycle Your Spirit WearAs we come to the end of this year, you may be spring cleaning, have a graduate, oryour Knights are just outgrowing their LNC gear. Rather than donating your LNCSpirit Wear items to other organizations, why not recycle it back to LNC? We will takeall gently used LNC clothing items that you'd like to donate. We will sort and sell theitems at a very reduced price for other families to enjoy while also raising money forthe PTO! There are collection boxes for your clean, gently worn LNC items in theschool offices until the last day of school. Thanks for your donations!

Books for Our Youngest KnightsThank you to the parents who have been holding on to books meant for theelementary school! You can now drop these books in the big box in the MS mainoffice.

Lunch ProgramThe last day lunches will be served at the high school is Friday, May 25.

Parking Pass Lottery for 2017-2018High school student parking passes are determined by lottery. Each May, studentsenter the lottery for a parking pass for the next school year by signing up in the highschool office. The last day to sign up is Friday, May 19. The lottery will be held onWednesday, May 24 and the results posted at the front and back doors near the officeby the end of that day. Seniors are given first priority. Then any available spaces willbe for juniors (those who are taking CPCC courses are given priority) and then forsophomores. No forms are needed at this time. All forms and payment are duestarting August 15. All student handbook eligibility guidelines apply. See studenthandbook pages 28 and 29.

Attention Parents of Students in the Class of2018The College Counseling department needs you to fill out aParent Brag Sheet to assist counselors and teachers inwriting your child's letters of recommendation for college.Students fill out their own brag sheet through Naviance, but we love getting a

Class of 2018 Senior Class TripSenior Class Council is excited to announce that the Class of 2018 senior class tripwill be to Universal Studios in February, 2018.

For the trip to move forward, we need 52 students to make their first deposit byWednesday, May 31, as that is how many students it takes to fill one bus. Thisdeposit of $150 should be made via personal check payable to Lake Norman Charter.Students will also need to turn in the signed permission form at this time. If we donot have 52 students signed up by May 31, we will return the checks and will cancelthe trip. If we do have enough students to fill the first bus, we will move forward withthe trip and deposit the checks. Please have your student turn the deposit in to Ms.McFarland in room 102.

For more students to attend, our next total goal number would be 66 and then 85. Ifmore than 52 students sign up, we will fill additional spots on a first-come first-servedbasis. Students will need to turn in their permission forms to Ms. McFarland in room102 to get on the waiting list. We will collect first deposit checks once we know thesecond bus will be filled.

Graduation TicketsTickets for the 2017 Graduation Ceremony are still available. Each graduate willreceive 10 complimentary tickets and families are able to purchase up to 5 additionaltickets at $10 each until the end of the day on Wednesday, May 24. Starting on May25, families who have already ordered 5 additional tickets and wish to purchase moremay do so on a first come/first served basis by completing the order form andreturning to the high school office. Payment must accompany the order form andchecks should be made payable to LNC. You will receive a confirmation email fortickets purchased (or to notify you if you are on the waiting list). Remember, the graduate does not need a ticket, but everyone else does. If you do notneed all 10 of your complimentary tickets please check with your classmates to see ifanyone else could use them. All tickets (both complimentary and any additionalpurchased) will be distributed to your graduate at the graduation rehearsal scheduledfor Friday, June 2. MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

Week of May 22, 2017 Due to state requirements, the middle school will now conduct full days of school

during EOG testing week to ensure that all students have the opportunity to completetheir state exams. Therefore, next Tuesday-Thursday, May 23-25, students will bedismissed at regular time (3:00pm). Most students complete their exams by themidpoint of the day, however we are still required to comply with these staterequirements. This only applies to the middle school. The revised school calendar isattached for your convenience.

Remember, it is the parent's option to check-out his or her student once testing iscomplete. However, please know that we will not be able to release any student untilregular testing administration is complete (APPROXIMATELY 4 hours from start ofexam or ABOUT 12:30pm). If you are not planning to pick your child up early, pleaseplan to send a lunch.

EOG and EOC TestsStudents in the middle school will take the EOG and EOC tests during the week ofMay 22-26. The schedule of EOG tests is below. We would like to remind parentsthat it is very important that all students arrive to school on time each day and areready for testing with two #2 pencils. To help prepare your students for the exams, itis critical for them to have a nutritious dinner, a good night's sleep, and a completebreakfast the morning of testing.

EOG Proctors NeededNext week the middle school will be administering EOG's. We are required to haveproctors present during these tests, so we are looking for volunteers. Please sign upto volunteer on one (or more) of the dates below. We CANNOT administer these required tests without your help.

Duke TIP StudentsSeveral LNC 7th grade students were recognized by the Duke TIP program for theirexceptional scores on the ACT or SAT tests, which are designed for college-bound11th and 12th graders. Ten students qualified for State Recognition by earning scoresthat are approximately equal to the 50th national percentile rank for college-boundseniors taking the tests. Mason McElroy qualified for Grand Recognition by earningscores that are approximately equal to the 90th national percentile rank for college-bound seniors taking the tests.

Food Collection for Angels and Sparrows Soup Kitchen SummerBrown Bag LunchesDuring May we think of flowers blooming and the beauty of nature waking up after along winter. As summer rolls around we herald the freedom, the sunshine and lazydays ahead. Sadly though, some kids go hungry without the routine of receiving aschool lunch. Our local Angels and Sparrows Soup Kitchen has been coming to therescue for several years now by providing brown bag lunches for children in need inour surrounding neighborhoods. Five days a week throughout the summer, theymake deliveries to waiting children. Lake Norman Charter School has supported theireffort every year by donating items that help to fill the lunch bags. During the week ofEOG's and the following week, from May 22-May 31, students are asked to bring indonations by grade level:

5th Grade - Fruit cups or applesauce6th Grade - Individually wrapped packages of Lance Crackers7th Grade - Pudding cups8th Grade - Breakfast bars

Please consider making a contribution. All items may be dropped off in the big blackbins outside the main office. It's a great time for students to participate because theydo not have to worry about carrying books back and forth during the EOG week.Contact Mrs. Bogarad for details.

The Purple Comet Math Meet is a free, on-line,international, team mathematics competition designed for middle and high schoolstudents conducted annually since 2003. LNC Summer Camps:Cheerleading Camp Looking for some fun this summer? Come join the LNCCheerleaders as they host 2 summer cheer camps! Both camps will run from 9am-noon and be held on the LNC campus. Previous cheer experience is not required;this is a time for learning, friendship, and fun. Participants will learn cheers, chants,dances, and work on basic stunting and tumbling that is age appropriate. Please feelfree to share with anyone who you might want to bring with you! You can mail in theregistration or drop it off in the MS office for Mrs. Locke. We look forward to seeing youthere!

Basketball Camp Coach Williams and LNC Knights HS basketball players areholding a summer basketball camp for boys and girls ages 6-13 from June 12 to 16in the LNC high school gym. The cost, including T-shirt & pizza lunch on June 16, is$125. Click here for information and a registration form.

EKGs will begiven to high school athletes who have not had one donein the past. Parents MUST go online and registertheir student-athlete (click on the icon or go towww.ppezoom.com) before Sunday, June 4.

We encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity to get your player'sphysical on June 10. You will not have to worry about your physical expiring in themiddle of season and all paperwork will be sent to the school for record keeping.
