SCHOOL VISION
SCHOOL VALUES
SCHOOL MISSION
SCHOOL MOTTO
The school’s vision of nurturing “Collaborative Innovators, Compassionate Leaders” encapsulates the school’s aspirations for the students to become complex problem-solvers who are able to work collaboratively in designing innovative solutions, and values-driven leaders with a heart to lead and serve others with compassion and empathy. Students learn to develop entrepreneurial mindset, solve real-world problems and become active contributors to the society, and in the midst of all, appreciate the joy of learning.
Edgefield Values are “Moral Courage and Compassion”, forming the acronym E = mc2, the famous energy equation by Albert Einstein who was one of the greatest scientists in the last century. E = mc2 helps to focus students’ mental attitude in doing what is right and being able to make a positive difference to the people around them.
The school’s mission “Growing Minds, Glowing Hearts” reflects the school’s deep-rooted ethos to develop students who are self-directed learners capable of adapting to changing conditions effectively. One of the key focuses of our work is to develop Social-Emotional (SE) skills that will enable students’ success by developing good habits in studies and behaviour. Role modelling by every staff is the key to building the character of the students.
The motto “Sincerity and Honour” serves as the school’s key guiding principle in our cultivation of the moral character of students, and to guide staff in their decision-making as well as day-to-day interaction.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
The theme this year, “Celebrating Diversity, Honouring Strengths”, serves as a timely celebration of many significant milestones in the rapid development of Edgefield Secondary School. Over the past 8 years, we have put in place various quality programmes that provide the unique and meaningful learning experience for our students. This ranges from bringing art into the community through our
biennial Arts Festival, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship through biennial ARTasFEST, to supporting the less privileged through CNY Hamper-gifting and Broom It! Day initiative. These have been made possible because of the trust, confidence and concerted support we have received from our stakeholders.
We believe that every child is equal and has the potential to shine. Our distinctive programmes have nurtured the potential and harnessed the strengths of our students. We seek to continually enrich our curriculum and our students’ learning experiences to help them develop crucial skills in fields relevant to the future. At the same time, we strive to inculcate core values that will allow our students to overcome potential challenges and seize the right opportunities to make positive contributions to their community and the world.
This year is an exciting one at Edgefield. Our reorganised form class system, a school-based initiative which is aligned to our school’s vision of nurturing our students to be ‘Collaborative Innovators, Compassionate Leaders’, has received much recognition and support from our stakeholders. We are also gearing up for the implementation of Full Subject-Based Banding (SBB) in 2020, as one of the 28 pilot secondary schools. Full SBB will allow the social environment in school to be reshaped and benefit students’ social and emotional growth.
The school’s journey on the one-to-one ipad has also evolved over time. This year, all our Year 1 students are equipped with an ipad to allow for more self-directed and collaborative learning. Learners are more engaged and learning is deepened through personalisation of learning and strategies that cater to active learning through individualised feedback and differentiated teaching and learning.
Apart from growing our students’ minds, we also emphasise the cultivation of their hearts. Our Year 2 students embarked on a community outreach programme, ‘Broom It! Day’, as part of their level-wide Values-in-Action Programme. Through this programme, students were engaged in inter-generational bonding and the spirit of volunteerism as they took the lead in exhibiting care and compassion for the elderly. Our students also broke the Singapore Book of Records (SBOR) with the largest collage formed using photo frames they painted together with the elderly.
This yearbook serves to document the growth and achievement of our students, in their thrilling journey towards realising their potential. The photographs depict a vibrant school life and evoke a sense of nostalgia, as one reminisces and savours those enriching experiences and important lessons, which have laid the foundation for greater progress and accomplishment.
To our graduating class of 2019, congratulations on accomplishing yet another milestone in your journey towards excellence! May you enjoy the fruit of your labour and embrace learning as a lifelong endeavour. May your passion burn brightly as you fervently pursue your dreams. May you remain grounded and humble in spite of your achievements. We are confident that with the right skills, attitudes and values, you will bring your dreams to life, and live for a purpose greater than yourselves.
As you embark on your new adventures, we hope that you stay connected to Edgefield. Just as your seniors have led the way, your continual involvement and valuable contributions will pave the way for your juniors to grow and achieve, and for the school to realise our vision.
