School NEWSLETTER WEEK 9, TERM 3 21st September 2020 PRINCIPALS MESSAGE God bless, Mr Ian Liney | Principal Who are you? This seems a simple enough question. What would you answer if someone asked you this? I imagine many of us would begin with our name and this might be followed with some information about ourselves. Usually something about our family will get a run here, as well as a brief description of what we do, our occupation, or if we are a student, what we might be studying. All of these things are interesting and communicate things about ourselves, but do they really communicate who we are? We all want to belong and be part of something. Unfortunately, many of the things we find our sense of belonging in are only temporary or can very quickly fall apart. While we probably all had a head knowledge of this, the events of this year have caused many to feel the reality of this. If my identity is found in my work, who am I when I retire? If my identity is found in my family, who am I if relationships break down and the family go separate ways? The verse in 1 John (see Shining Light to the left) is a beautiful reminder of who we were created to be. In it we are reminded that Gods love for us is so great that He has called us to be His children. I am a child of God. I am a child of God and I was when I was single, I was when I got married and I still am now that I have children of my own. I am a child of God and I was when I was a student, I was when I was a teacher, I am still one as a Principal and I will remain one when I retire or do something else. Being a child of God is a gift from God and it is not dependent on anything I do. My identity is found in Him and nothing can change that. It doesnt matter what I do for a living or how good I am at doing it, whether I am single or married or have children or not. Gods love for me and you is so great (He has lavished it on us) that we can be his children, and as a child of God I also have a share in His inheritance, a place prepared for me in heaven for all eternity. So, I ask the question again, who are you? If you want to know more about what it means to be a child of God or how do you become one I encourage you to speak with someone about this. Contact a local Christian Church or ask a staff member from the school, or talk with someone you know who might already profess to be a child of God. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

God bless, Mr Ian Liney | Principal

Who are you? This seems a simple enough question. What would you answer if someone asked you this? I imagine many of us would begin with our name and this might be followed with some information about ourselves. Usually something about our family will get a run here, as well as a brief description of what we do, our occupation, or if we are a student, what we might be studying. Junior School NEWS

God bless,

Mr Paul Marks | Head of Junior School

Greetings friends of Junior School. Many of you would be aware that we are focussing our School Improvement goals around reading, writing and explicit instruction this year.

Our writing data wall is now complete for Term 3 and I have some really exciting student improvements to share with you.

This week we will start with the Year 6 and Year 4 students that have improved by more than 20% in their Seven Steps To Writing Success scores. We are so proud of the hard work and dedication of our students in their learning journeys.

More to come next term. We are really looking forward to Thursday this week, with our Farm Day in Infants (K-2) and our Wellbeing – Colour Day in Primary (3-6). Just a gentle reminder about the importance of hats in the playground as the temperature starts to rise and the sun starts to burn delicate skin. Students will also need their drink bottles, as we are still in COVID-19 bubbler lockout. The uniform shop is open Monday 8-10am, Wednesday 2:30-4pm, Thursday 8-9:30am. Congratulations to Mr Knibbs on a successful half Athletics Carnival and Infants’ Fun Day. We are all looking forward to this Friday, as we complete round two. Many thanks to Mrs Rainger and her Years 9 and 10 PASS students. God bless you for your service.

Secondary School NEWS

Welcome to Week 9 of Term 3. While it’s only been a short nine week term, it still has been a busy time for staff and students, particularly our Senior cohort who have completed their final Assessments this week.

WRITE A BOOK IN A DAY

This Wednesday 23rd September, selected students will be participating in a writing workshop that will provide storybooks for children in hospital, and provide our students with an opportunity to learn important techniques and conventions. It is always a positive experience for all involved and a worthy cause.

YOURCHOICEZ

This Thursday 24th September, Year 10 students will be participating in the rescheduled YourChoicez seminar. It is an opportunity for students to explore positive relationships as well as topics often considered taboo. By the end of the day, students will be equipped with valuable information to make informed decisions in their future. Details have been communicated home to families and students are allowed to wear their sports uniform for the day.

CRAZY SOCK DAY FUNDRAISER

What better way to end the term than to wear a pair of crazy socks to fundraise for two worthy causes. Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation and some extra change to purchase a Zooper Dooper at recess or a can of drink at lunch. Money raised will go to the Mito Foundation and Children’s Cancer Council. Thank you in advance for getting behind this initiative and supporting these charities.

CMT LEADERSHIP TRAINING

This Thursday 24th September, Year 11 CMT students will participate in a Leadership Training Day presented by Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF). They will learn about their own God-given strengths and how to use them in service. It will be a valuable and practical day for the students as they collaborate and work through a team project.

WCCS WHAT’S HAPPENING

AROUND JUNIOR SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY

On Friday 4th September, Junior School students participated in the annual Cross Country Carnival. Although this year was run a little bit different, with no spectators and being held very late in the year due to COVID-19, the conditions were fantastic with amazing weather for the run. Our Kindergarten and Year 1 students started the day with their Fun Run, followed by the rest of Junior School with their Cross Country. It was a fantastic event with all races held in great spirit. The students all enjoyed crossing the finish line to receive their place ribbon and an ice block.

I would like to say a big thank you to Mr Harris, Mr Higgins and Mr Hansen for helping with set up and pack up. A huge thanks must also go to Mrs Rainger and her wonderful Year 9 PE class, who didn’t stop running all day.

Although our students have missed out on many events this year, it was great to see that they could still participate in the Cross Country.

This year we are awarding the Top 3 in every age group with a place medallion.

Congratulations to all of the place Age Champions:
