Coming to college is different to staying at school for lots of reasons. Every school offers different courses so it’s important to check out all your options before you decide what’s best for you.

One of the fundamental differences with Peterborough Regional College is that you can’t study for A levels. Most school sixth forms offer A level qualifications and will expect you to gain an A or B (9-5) grade GCSE in the subject you wish to study at A level.

Eligible applicants to PRC are offered Level 3 Extended BTEC courses which are a genuine alternative to A levels.

If you decide to study a BTEC you will have to choose one subject to study. Unlike A levels where you might study 3 or 4 different subjects, at PRC you choose one subject and study it in more depth.

BTECs are different from A levels as they are more ‘hands on’ and they often appeal to more practical learners.

Everyone studying a full-time course at PRC will be automatically timetabled English and maths if they have not alread achieved these at grade 9 - 4 (A* - C). Your tutor will work with you to create a study programme which will include work experience and add on qualifications where relevant.

College can seem like a big, scary place, but you’ll soon be able to find your way around. It’s a different environment to school, it won’t suit everyone but the majority of students find they thrive and learn to be responsible for their own learning.

Indeed when it comes to applying for jobs or university our Level 3 BTEC learners can talk about how they have become independent learners who can work with others and manage their time effectively.

Which is right for you?
