"Freude am Lernen" Joy of Learning School News March 1, 2016 School Safety We routinely comply with ASD mandated fire, natural disaster, stay put, and lockdown drills. Our new facility has been designed to enhance the level of security we are able to offer. At ASD schools, the doors remain locked during school hours. At the end of the day, our teachers escort their class to a prescribed pick up point. As you know, kindergarten and 1st graders are picked up in the gym while other classes line up outside. Teachers make every effort to lead their students down early so that doors may be opened at release time. If doors are opened earlier, it would make it more difficult for students to get to their pick up location and it would be more difficult for our staff to keep track of students. We appreciate you for signing in when visiting and wearing a badge to identify yourself as well. We would like to thank parents for their understanding and for adhering to ASD procedures that were developed with the safety of all students in mind. Over the next two weeks, we will be assessing the level of German

Here are some specifics regarding these annual assessments.

A1 Prüfung (3rd graders)  Tests that the child can carry out a

short conversation and talk about familiar topics that have been

covered in class.  Their listening skills are assessed along with

reading and writing simple sentences in German.

A2 Prüfung (6th graders)  Represents the approximate level of

high school 3rd year German.  Students can carry on a normal

conversation on a variety of topics and make a presentation on the

everyday topic.  They make a presentation and are able to

successfully defend their viewpoint in German.  They understand

spoken German well and can read German language texts

appropriate to their age.  Student are able to analyze and

related analysis.  Students who are successful at the B1 have

demonstrated a language level high enough to qualify to attend a

German junior college.

The Alaska Measures of Progress (AMP) is Alaska's

summative assessment for students in grades 3 through 10.  The

purpose of the large scale summative assessment is to provide

parents and schools an overall picture of a student's progress in

meeting standards at their grade level.

Students taking AMP will be tested on Alaska State Standards in

the content areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics.

Students in grades 4, 8, and 10 will also be tested in science.  The

assessment is taken on the computer and is not timed, but each

content area can take approximately 90120 minutes.  Student

have access to universal tools to help them on the assessment,

with additional accessibility tools and accommodations, if

applicable.

This year, revised score reports for AMP will include more

information on the areas in which a student is making progress and

areas in which they might need more help.  Parents can locate

resources for the AMP assessment, including directions

for technology practice tests, on the ASD website at

On Jan. 22nd, School Messenger was used to announce that a

concerted effort to enforce our dress code policy is being made by

our faculty and staff.  We asked that you do what you can from

home to support our efforts.  We wanted to thank you for helping.

We have seen a marked decrease in the number of out of
