Ground Rules Honor time limits Be respectful of those speaking (no side bar
conversations or doing other work) Comments should advance the discussion by
presenting new ideas (repetition should be avoided) Practice digital etiquette. Laptop use is restricted to
presentation use or official note taking. Put cell phones on vibrate. (Use professional judgment when answering a phone and step outside of the room to do so.)
Raise your hand/gesture before speaking & acknowledge who has gestured to speak in a equitable manner
Ground Rules (contd) Different opinions are welcome. Challenge ideas, not individual. All participants share responsibility for the team’s
process. Silence means agreement. Disagree in private; unite in public. Irrespective of how
individuals voted, once a decision has been agreed to everyone should support it and speak with one voice outside of the meeting.
Do what you say you’ll do. Individuals are accountable for following through on agreed actions and the group should hold each other mutually accountable.
Roles will be defined for the meeting Keep all the discussions Private & decisions Public
Key Note
Absolute identity with one's cause is the first and great condition of successful leadership.
-Woodrow Wilson
lead·er·ship [lee-der-ship] noun 1. the position or function of a leader, a person who guides or
directs a group: He managed to maintain his leadership of the party despite heavy opposition. Synonyms: administration, management, directorship, control, governorship, stewardship, hegemony.
2. ability to lead: As early as sixth grade she displayed remarkable leadership potential. Synonyms: authoritativeness, influence, command, effectiveness; sway, clout.
3. an act or instance of leading; guidance; direction: They prospered under his strong leadership.
4. the leaders of a group: The union leadership agreed to arbitrate.
It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership.
-Nelson Mandela
Repeat after me:I am a leader… I can’t help it...
I am made that way! I am a leader…
I am highly opinionated… I am wired that way!
I am a leader… I love progress…
and I am wired that way!I am a leader…
I hate the status quo… and I am made that way!
People make history and notthe other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better.
-Harry S Truman
As leaders…
We see things that need to change.
We think we can do it better than those who are in charge.
We can choose rebellion or to just do our own thing!
Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.
-Martin Luther King Jr.
1. Leaders love progress
“The unique role of the leader is to take us to places we’ve never been before.”
Your premium brand had better be delivering something special, or it's not going to get the business.
-Warren Buffett 47’
1. Leaders love progress2. Leaders hate the status quo3. Nothing strikes terror more than being stuck,4. Progress is always preceeded by change.5. Change is always preceeded by challenge.
Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.
-Martin Luther King Jr.
“Leaders must challenge the process because any system will
unconsciously conspire to maintain the status quo and prevent change.”
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the
courage to continue that counts.
-Winston Churchill
Never underestimate the power of dreams and the
influence of the human spirit. We are all the same in this notion: The potential for
greatness lives within each of us.
-Wilma Rudolph
You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.
-Maya Angelou

Having the teachers join us was good and
helpful. Great commitment to
teaching and learning.
Working in small groups and reporting
out was effective.
We were able to narrow problems down
and create workable solutions.
After setting grounds rules, it was
disappointing to see some people
disregarding them repeatedly.
We should have made dates and times for the next steps because we
need to make sure next steps are taken
and further development is done.
We needed to make
better use of the bin.
