Dear Parents and Community,

Welcome to Week 10 of Term 2.

Wow, what a term it has been! The global COVID-19 pandemic has thrust upon us many changes. Despite the various changes, I am very proud of our school community’s ongoing response. Our students, staff, and families have banded together to make the most of a very challenging situation.

I would again like to thank everyone for adapting to the circumstances, showing resilience to change, supporting one another, and doing so with a positive attitude that truly reflects the great culture we have within our school community.

It was through all of this that we were able to continue the education of our students and successfully transition back into the classroom at Dulacca State School.

With the progressive easing of restrictions across our state there is a sense of optimism that things are returning to a greater level of normality. The latest Operating Guidelines for Schools, effective from June 19th, provides information about the resumption of school assemblies, sport, excursions and camps throughout the next semester. I will continue to advise you of information as it relates to our school context and can ensure you that our decisions are based around what is best for the health and safety of students, staff and the community.

Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday.

As always, ‘Onwards and Upwards’.

Kind Regards, Tarnia Doughty, Principal

PBL Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a whole-school framework used in our school to promote positive behaviour. PBL helps us to develop a safe and supportive learning environment, build positive relationships and improve student learning outcomes. Our school community has worked together to establish simple, clear and explicit expectations for behaviour: Be a learner, Be respectful and Be responsible & safe. Student behaviour improves when students know what is expected of them and when good behaviour is recognised. Our school takes a proactive, preventative approach, ensuring that all students receive the appropriate level of support to help them to succeed. Week 9: Be Respectful - Use appropriate voice level

Week 10: Be a Learner - Be a good sport

Please discuss these with your child and how they are ensuring that they are being respectful, responsible and safe learners. Staff are always on the look out and rewarding students demonstrating expected behaviours.

Cyber safety Teaching our children to be cyber safe will help them to engage with the online world safely, responsibly and discerningly and can assist to protect them from online risks. Our local police officer, Shane, has provided us with some information sheets and activities that can be used to assist parents and children to be safe in our growing digital world. Each fortnight, we will include a

sheet with our newsletter. If you have any concerns regarding cyber safety please let us know. The first fact sheet outlines the Top 10 Cyber Safety Tips for Youth. An important one to remember is:

Don’t give out any private information over the internet or mobile phones

about you, your family and friends, or other people you know.

I would like to acknowledge and say thank you to the unsung heroes working behind the scenes who keep our school running smoothly and well maintained to provide a safe, healthy and engaging environment. Our amazing support staff are an important part of our school community and we appreciate and respect their work and the role they play supporting our school and students. Thank you Rebecca Sedgewick, Cherelle Manuel and Jean Troutman for all that you do!
