Clifton with Rawcliffe Primary School are looking to
appoint a cleaner to start work as part of the in-house
cleaning team as soon as possible.
Our school is a large, modern site and we are looking
for an enthusiastic, flexible and committed person to
work as part of a team to make sure our school is
cleaned to the highest standards.
In return we are offering full training to do the job,
£9.00 per hour, 24 days holiday a year (plus bank
holidays) and the opportunity to join the Local
Government Pension Scheme if you wish.

Main Purpose of Job
To carry out general cleaning duties, in any areas allocated by the Cleaning Supervisor and/or MAT Estates & Facilities Manager, to the required standards and in accordance with the agreed service levels.
Core Responsibilities, Tasks and Duties
• Following training where required, ensure that all cleaning materials and equipment are used in a safe, efficient and cost effective way.
• Provide cover for absences of colleagues as required, this could involve picking up work in other areas of the school and possibly, on occasions, at other schools within the MAT where required.
• Cleaning, sweeping and vacuum cleaning.
• Emptying of bins.
• Washing, dusting and polishing surfaces, including floors, walls, tables etc.
• Scrubbing and buffing floors, using powered equipment on the relevant floors.
• Cleaning of toilet areas, to include replenishing of toilet rolls, soap and hand towels.
• To undertake a deep clean at various times within the year which includes, all of the above, plus additional tasks as required in different buildings/areas of schools – for example:
• shampooing carpets
• stripping and re-polishing floors
• cleaning lockers
• To cooperate with the management team when work monitoring inspections are carried out. Comply fully with any subsequent instructions or recommendations that result from such inspections.
• Ensure allocated areas are locked/unlocked and left secure as directed.
• Occasional movement of furniture as required.
• Maintain cleanliness of fixtures and fittings as required.
• Assist the school in all security and energy management programmes by ensuring that all lights are switched off and windows closed and locked as appropriate.
• Take responsibility for own safety and that of others.
• Not to interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of Health and Safety.
• To immediately report any defects in plant, equipment or the working environment.
• Communicate effectively and respectfully with all colleagues, managers, staff and others on site; work as a positive member of the wider team.

Creativity and Innovation
The work is generally covered by guidelines and policies but does require the postholder to be involved in the improvement of systems and the development of procedures within their areas of responsibility.
Contacts and Relationships
Internal Comes into regular contact with school staff. Most issues will usually be on well established matters. External Comes into contact with suppliers and contractors, parents, members of the public.

Decisions – Discretion and consequences
Discretion Makes decisions within clearly defined procedures. Many decisions are dictated or influenced by risk assessment, Health and Safety legislation and school protocols. Consequences Ensures the efficient operation of the school site with minimal disruption to the provision of education.
Resources
Responsible for the proper use and safekeeping of school buildings and grounds, plant and machinery.
Work Environment
Work demands The work is subject to change and interruption. May also require travel between schools that form part of the Pathfinder MAT. Physical demands Work requires normal physical effort with periods of substantial effort involved in the maintenance of the entire site. May require travel between schools within the MAT. Working conditions Work involves some exposure to unpleasant or difficult surroundings. Work context May involve contact with potentially hazardous substances e.g. chemicals, but training and protective equipment is given where appropriate.
Knowledge and Skills
The post holder needs a good level of practical skills in the following areas:
• Manual handling techniques
• Cleaning and maintenance of floor coverings and use of specialist equipment Needs to have a good awareness and knowledge of:
• Safe disposal of sharps
• COSHH issues
• Electrical safety
• Waste disposal procedures
• School protocols, policies and procedures The post holder may also need to be able to travel between schools that form the Pathfinder MAT, this could include by cycling, driving etc. (NB the MAT does not actually provide transport for this purpose, but staff will only be required to travel reasonable distances).

Cycle to Work Scheme For staff who wish to purchase a bike for the purpose
of travelling to work this can be done via Cyclescheme.
You purchase the bike you want via the scheme and
Pathfinder MAT pays the initial cost upfront and then
you pay for it directly from your salary on a monthly
basis (12 months is the usual duration). The deductions
for the Cyclescheme are taken from your gross pay each
month so your taxable pay is lower than it otherwise
would be.
