Message from the Principal

Responsibility Day

Following on from last week’s newsletter that was

written by my ‘shadows’ Sharmika, Jacob, Charlotte

and Jack, I would like to reinforce the power of this

day. The year 6 teams all combined well to plan and

then roll out their programs within each of the class-

rooms and the specialist classes. Interestingly, it is

often the ‘quiet achiever’ that surprises and shines as

the morning rolls on.

The principal team also ran our assembly on Friday,

and managed a a busy running sheet within the allot-

ted time. All agreed that Tuesday’s lunchtime took

forever to come and were happy to settle into some

serious reflection time in the last session.

Year 5 Market Week has just concluded, and what a

grand production it was! Over the last few weeks,

business plans had been developed, then stalls set up

to try and entice the rest of the students to spend

play money at their particular stall. My favourites

were the mini-golf and laser tag, though judging by

the number of staff with painted nails, the beauty

parlour was a hit as well!

Fences in on Thursday

Our builder Switchco takes over the building site on

Thursday. The temporary fences will be in and com-

plete by lunchtime. Exciting Times!!!

Minister Merlino in on Friday

Running to a tight schedule, Minister for Education,

James Merlino will be through on a flying visit to offi-

cially ‘turn the sod’ on our Gymnasium project. With

many visits to fit in, it is unfortunate that he could

not attend assembly at 9.00. However, he will arrive

at 10.30 and ceremoniously break ground with our ar-

chitects, builder and school representative.

Leadership badges Friday

This Friday at 9.00 assembly, the student leadership team for 2020 will be introduced. On this day, School

Captains, Junior School Council Leaders, You Can Do It Values leaders, House Captains and the Make A Dif-

ference team will receive their badge. Early next year, classes will nominate representatives for class

JSC, Wellbeing and Inspirations.

Staffing for 2020

As we approach the final two weeks of school our teachers have consulted on grade formations ready for

next Tuesday’s ‘Meet the Teacher’. Your role as a parent in this process will help make the transition to

next year a successful one. By entering into calm, supportive, enthusiastic conversation with your child

you will set him or her up for success!

Our staffing seems complete, though a surprise out of ‘left field’ is always a late possibility.

I take great delight in introducing our teams for 2020:

Prep: Brooke Cousins, Christie Gilder, Amy Peacock and Kate Spillane.

One: Tim Mulhall, Nicola Johnson and Maddy Robb

One/Two: Jennifer Tesselaar

Two: Rohan Hawthorne, Lauren Walshe, Georgia Horsley (Healesville PS)

Three: Mel Sutherland, Bec Cross, Shannon Tibballs, Georgia Stanke (Victoria Road PS)

Three/Four: Xavier Nowicki

Four: Mia Schubert, Erin Perry/Yvonne Pecher (job share), Belinda Horton (Rolling Hills PS)

Five: Adam Benner, Karina Gowan, Rod Clarke

Five/Six: James Quilty

Six: Katrina Gardiner, Kristen Barnes, Clyde Davidson.

Our specialist team:

Art: Mandy Johnson/Bianca Mason

Drama: Bianca Mason

Music: Andrea Vakulczyk

Chinese: Yiheng Ma, Yuchen Ding (Serpel PS)

PE: Simon Olershaw (Bayswater and Parkmore Primary Schools), Evan Holmes

A big welcome to Simon and Yuchen whose appointments have just been finalised.

You may have noticed that the name Amber Rickard is missing. Sadly for Montrose PS Amber will be mov-

ing out of education for the foreseeable future, exploring new pathways and travelling. All staff will miss

working with Amber as she is an exceedingly skilful educator who always finds a way to make connections

with the children she teaches. Having worked mainly in the lower levels, Amber took on the challenge of

change and worked in the highest levels for the last couple of years and showed that she is highly capable

across all levels. I know that you will join with me in thanking Amber for her time at Montrose and wishing

her the very best in the future.

From the Office Tips and Tricks

Using the Sentral Parent Portal for Parent Payments

Thank you for your support while we implement the new electronic permission slips and payments via

the Sentral parent portal. We are hoping that this will give parents another convenient way to keep

up with notices and payments for activities, and can be very handy if you do not get to visit us in the

office very often.

We have had a few parents experience some difficulties using the payments side. We can give you the

following tips to assist you:

Tip #1: "Cannot click the Make Payment Button"

Problem: The button is kind of fuzzed out and can't be

clicked

Solution: Make sure you have clicked the little box at

the top of the activity

Tip #2: "When I put in my credit card details, nothing happens"

Problem: After entering in your credit card details and clicking

"submit payment", nothing happens or a weird message about Card-

holders Name appears.

Solution: Make sure you have clicked the green "Confirm" button

above the Cardholder Details section, then click "Submit Payment"

From the Office Tips and Tricks

Using the Sentral Parent Portal for Parent Payments

Tip #3: "It looks like I can only pay for one activity at a time"

Problem: It appears that you can only select and pay for one activity at a time

Solution: You can only pay for activities that you have given permission for. Make sure you have given per-

mission for each activity/child, then click “Make Payment”. That way you only pay the transaction fee

once.

Tip #4: "I am on CSEF / have pre-payed an excursion levy. Do I have to pay now this way?"

Solution: NO. You do not have to pay using the parent portal.

If you wish to pay via your credit at the office, simply let us know by phone or email which excursions you

wish to pay for using this method.

You can also still send in cash in an envelope or use your credit card at the office.

We are simply giving busy parents another method that they can use to make payments.

Permission Slips however should now be done on the Parent Portal.

NOTE: Due Date for Permission and Payment on the portal is the DAY IT HAS CLOSED. You

MUST give permission BEFORE this date. The system will not allow you to pay ON this date.

What is it?

You are a unique being. Nobody has been born who is exactly like you or who has your special combination of talents and gifts. Cre-ativity is the way you use your gifts to bring new things into being. It is making new mu-

sic, art, having new ideas, creating inven-tions, dance, solving problems in new ways;

it is a process of discovery.

Creativity is sharing your gifts and talents
