Hi Everyone

As of the start of next term families will receive an email

each Tuesday containing a link to the newsletter on-

of hard copies will be available at the office.

Three Good News stories to start our week:

Good News Number 1:

I received a note that Aiden in grade 1 has passed a judo practical and knowledge test called a grading at the Hawthorn and Lilydale Judo Clubs.

This is no easy task and requires a great deal of practice. The grade is awarded by the presentation of a coloured judo belt.

Junior judo belts are in varying colours signifying age and expertise. Aiden has been awarded a Yellow belt.

Good News Number 2:

Well done to Mr Mulhall, Miss Greaves and Mrs Walker who led the year 5 camp to Alexandra last week. Condensation filled windows was a sure sign that chicken noodle soup was being prepared in the canteen on Wednesday morning. Chicken noodle is our most popular soup and last week we

served 85 cups. This was an incredible amount considering we had two grade 5 classes on camp and the Preps were enjoying a Chinese lunch out. I received 100% of cups back on Wednesday after lunch, thanks to everyone for returning their cups so promptly. One of our Prep Grandmas was helping in the canteen on Wednesday and whilst serving one of the children at the window she heard the words ‘you look old’. After explaining that Di was in fact a Grandma, all seemed to make sense to our bemused student. We all enjoyed a laugh together and took the opportunity to point out that it did look a little confusing as Di was clearly not a mum but didn’t look old enough to be a Grandma. We enjoy so many fun moments with the kids during counter service at recess and lunch. On Friday Hot Chocolate was again very popular. In the morning we baked an extra special giant Anzac for Colin for his 80th birthday. Colin was thrilled with his home made treat. Canteen Volunteer Thank you A BIG thank you to Di Reynolds for helping in the canteen and to Angela Collyer and Kylie Shephard for checking if I needed any help in the canteen and offering their assistance the week prior. As soon as I received two offers of help I scheduled Chicken Noodle Soup as soup of the week as this would be the perfect day for our largest soup service. A BIG thank you to Dianna Gazeas, Ali Fraser Zank and Amanda Lehmann for absolutely powering through everything in the canteen on Friday. We were well ahead of the game, all day. What can I buy? Piranha Vegie Chips are available for $1.30 in 3 different flavours - BBQ Cheese, Salt & Vinegar and Honey Soy Amanda

Newsletter Printing: Starting next term we will not be printing hard copy editions of the newsletter for every family. Our newsletter will be available on the website every week and a link will be emailed to families each week. We will print a limited number of copies of the newsletter which will be available in the foyer. MISSING: Black & Red Scooter and Ninja Turtle helmet. Both were accidentally left in the Bike shed on Friday afternoon. If anyone has picked this up or safely stored it somewhere,

please let the office know.

What is it?

Moderation is creating balance in your life between work, play and rest.

It is about having or doing enough of something

- not too much, not too little, but just the right amount. If you study all the time or rest all the

time, it is not being moderate.

This term’s Key for Success is Organisation. The habits of mind that go with the Organisation Key are: Planning your time and Setting goals.

Our YCDI Award winners for this week are:

Taylah N, PH: When this prep student started her mum was really concerned about her forgetting her drink bottle and not being able to find anything. After settling into the school routine and trying really hard and never giving up, this student now remembers her reader, her red folder, her drink bottle, and can collect and put away all the items she needs to do her work. An amazing semester. A worthy student for the organisation award, congratulations Taylah N.

Lily C, 2H: How do you describe someone who is organised? Do you say that they always have their books out? Or do you say that they are always ready to learn? Is it better to say that they finish everything? Or that they always do their best? Maybe it’s saying that they like a challenge. Or that they give everything a go. Perhaps it’s just saying that their effort is amazing. Or that they should be very proud. I might not know how to describe someone who is organised but I know how to describe Lily C. She always has her books out and is always ready to learn. She always finishes everything and always does her best. She always likes a challenge and gives everything a go. She is always so amazing and should be very proud.

Matilda P, 4W: When I thought of who was organised in 4W, this person came immediately to mind. She regularly hands in her homework, reads most nights and keeps her tub and workspace tidy which enables her to begin work promptly. She ensures that she has a clear idea about the task at hand and what is expected and then diligently works to complete the task. I wish I was as organised. Keep up the excellent work Matilda P.

Your kids are invited to... Spok's Party!

It’s going to be one big party these school holidays with a celebration that has been planned for your kids by our friend Spok, all inspired by his most favourite things to do and see. Some of the feature party days coming up include:

Build and take home your own Planetarium. Get ready for Planetarium FUN as we get out-of-this-world creative! Build, design and decorate what your solar system will look like. And of course, every solar system needs a story - create your own to share.

Introduction to Coding. Pop on your code creation caps, it's programming time in a highly interactive and fun workshop. In groups, we'll learn about the fundamentals of coding with 4 separate stations including: algorithms, programming, functions & variables and an experience with Ozobots (advanced robotics packed in a cubic inch)!

Build and take home a Terrarium. You'll give two (green) thumbs up today because we are building our own indoor garden to take home and watch bloom in our own room! We'll learn about plant life-cycles and the environment and then create our own piece of green.

At the Movies. We’re off to the movies to see the latest kid’s films. Check out the program to see what movie we are going to see!

A Message from the Principal – Continued from Front Page Good News Number 3: Well done to Jamie in grade 2 who managed to call 000 and provide the Emergency services worker with the appropriate details when a family member needed some medical attention. Jamie is seen here with his sister after being presented with his certificate.

Can You Help?

One of our students rode his red scooter to school and forgot to pick it up at the end of the day. His Ninja turtle helmet was with it. Contact the office if you have any information.
