When Planning for College Transfer…
Time really is money! Apply early for scholarships and financial aid. Deadlines are sooner than you think!
1/29/2013 Scholarship Tips 3
Submit the FAFSA (Every Year!) www.fafsa.gov and www.pin.ed.gov *Change the School Code from NeSCC to the Transfer College or University of Choice
Serves as one application for the: Federal Pell Grant Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG) Federal Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant Federal TEACH Grant Federal Work-Study (NeSCC requires additional application) Federal Direct Loans – Note: Available at participating schools only

TN Student Assistance Award TN Education Lottery Scholarship Program (TELS)

Cancel any awarded aid for future semesters at NeSCC so that your transfer school can award aid. You cannot receive aid at two schools within the same semester.
Submit a Consortium Agreement to take classes at two schools. Only the school where you are seeking your degree awards your financial aid.
Complete Exit Counseling at the National Student Loan Data System if you have student loans.
Notify your lender that you are transferring so that your repayments do not start while you are continuing your education at the transfer institution.
Submit transcript information to the new school from all colleges attended.
Make sure that NeSCC has updated contact information for you before you transfer.

Tennessee HOPE Scholarship Points to Remember: If you lose your HOPE Scholarship while enrolled at NeSCC, you
must submit an appeal through NeSCC, not the transfer school. Transfer any state or lottery funds to the new school by
submitting the Change of Institution to TSAC by using the TSAC Student Financial Aid Portal.
Attempted Hours means all course work at all institutions, including drops, withdrawals, and failing grades but excluding college credit earned while still in high school and any repeat courses not used for the one-time grade replacement appeal.
Lottery GPA includes all “Attempted Hours” course work from all institutions and will not start over at the transfer school.
Types of GPAs Semester or Term TELS, Lottery, or Hope Scholarship Overall Combined or Institution Combined: may include learning support, articulated
credit, college-level, and transfer grades College-Level, Undergraduate, or Overall Institution: may include college-level, articulated credit, and
transfer grades; used to determine graduation status and graduation honors

college-level credit – even the Fs – you earned at every college you previously attended?

Advantage or Disadvantage?
Calculating the College-Level GPA A = 4 B = 3 C = 2 D = 1 F = 0 Quality Hours = Credit Hours Earned 16 = 4 (3-hour classes) + 1 (4-hour class) or 12 + 4 Quality Points = Letter Grade x Credit Hours 16 = A x 4 or 4 x 4 3 = D x 3 or 1 x 3 9 = B x 3 or 3 x 3 0 = F x 3 or 0 x 3 6 = C x 3 or 2 x 3 Total QP = 34 GPA = Total Quality Points ÷ Total Quality Hours

Reminder! College Transcripts 1. Request an official transcript to be included with your Application
for Admission. 2. You may need to send a transcript with your Scholarship
Application as well. 3. You must send a final, official transcript that shows your
final cumulative college-level GPA and degree awarded. It is your responsibility to ensure that official college transcripts are received by the scholarship deadline(s) at the transfer college or university. You must complete a Request for Northeast State Transcript form.
Allow enough time for the paperwork to be processed by the Office of Admissions and Records to meet the published scholarship deadline(s) of the transfer school.
Is there enough time for NeSCC to mail the transcript or will you have to pick it up and FedEx it?
