The following are Academic and Leadership Scholarships and Bursaries awarded to the recipient by the Warden. Students are not required to apply for these awards.

• Academic Excellence Scholarships [15% of base accommodation fees per recipient p.a.;

undergraduate; any discipline; only for students returning to College]

• Academic Entrance Scholarships [up to $8,000 p.a.; undergraduate; any discipline; only for

incoming first year/new students]

• Dr Fisher Scholarship [up to $5,000 p.a.; undergraduate; Science, with preference for

Geological studies and excluding engineering; GPA of 6.5 or above required]

• Judge McGuire Scholarship [up to $7,500 p.a.; undergraduate; any discipline; for academic

excellence; normally for students returning to College]

• Katherine McGuire Scholarship [up to $6,000 p.a.; awarded to a female undergraduate; any

discipline; for academic excellence; normally for students returning to College]

• Sir Charles Spry Major Scholarship [up to $12,000 p.a.; any undergraduate discipline, with a

preference for Law; normally for students returning to College]

• Sir Charles Spry Minor Scholarship [up to $8,000 p.a.; any discipline, with preference for Law;

normally for incoming first year/new students]

• A.W. Oakes Honours Scholarships [15% of base accommodation fees per recipient p.a.;

recipient must have been accepted into an honours program; any discipline]

• Wilfred Manning Hall Honours / Final Year Scholarship [up to $4,300 p.a.; recipient must have

been accepted into an honours program; any discipline]

• 4th and 5th Year General Excellence Awards [up to $5,000 p.a.; entering 4th or 5th year; any

discipline]

• Postgraduate Leadership Awards [up to $5,000 p.a.; postgraduate; demonstration of

leadership ability]

Write a statement not exceeding 200 words indicating why you are applying for an award / awards, and how the award(s) will make a difference to your achievements.

STEP 5: SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION

Please provide the following documentation to support your application:

• For sporting and cultural awards: documents which establish excellence (maximum 5 pages)

• For cultural awards relating to music and other music awards: copies of music exam results.

• For the James Warner Music Scholarship: an indication of which instrument you intend to

study.

• For rural/regional-based awards: evidence of rural/regional residence.

• For Bursaries and Combined Awards: sufficient financial information for you and your parents,

documented as appropriate, to demonstrate hardship. These may include, for example,

statements of income and expenditure, tax assessment notices, or Centrelink notices. Please

ensure that the documentation is as current as possible.

For the Joe Croft Indigenous Award, documentation from a community Elder establishing your

Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.

For Combined Awards: evidence of academic achievement (e.g., results transcripts, Dean’s

awards).

Privacy Notice: Financial information provided by the applicant and his/her parents will be treated with the strictest confidentiality. It will be used by the Awards Selection Panel solely for the purpose of assessing claims of financial need in applications for bursaries and combined bursaries/scholarships. The Awards Selection Panel will comprise the Warden, the Chair of the St John’s College Council (or his/her nominee), and the Chair of the St John’s College Foundation (or his/her nominee)
