I pride myself on having interpersonal skills, sin-cere bedside manner, and being able to relate to my patients on a personal level. I maintain honesty and assurance in my practices and always strive to give the utmost of sound patient management, sur-gical skill, and patient education.”

Board Eligible: American Board of Obstetrics and GynecologyJunior Fellow: American Congress of Obstetrics and GynecologyResidency: The Methodist Hospital Ob/Gyn Program, Houston, TXMD: The University of TN Health Science Center, Memphis, TNBS: Spelman College, Atlanta, GA

We are proud to welcome Tamika L. Sea, MD to Schilling Women’s Center.

1. When did you decide to be a doctor? I decided to become a doctor when I was about 13 years old, secondary to the passing of my great grandmother.

2. Why did you choose Ob/Gyn as your specialty? My great grandmother passed away from Stage 4 ovarian cancer when I was 13. It was interesting since she had multiple medical problems, and went to the doctor frequently, but she hadn’t been to an OB/Gyn since she began menopause, which was over 20 years prior. She felt like there was no need to go anymore. She was diagnosed, and in one month, she was gone. I actually tell people that I wanted to become an OB/Gyn before I knew what all that entailed!!

3. Do you come from a family of doc-tors? I am the first medical doctor in my family.

4. What is your favorite part of being an Ob/Gyn? I love being able to bond with my patients. What we do is amazing! We are able to take care of women early in their lives, be with them during some of the most special moments like giving birth, and continue to be with them through their many years after childbearing. They trust and believe in us, and it’s such a special relationship!

5. Were you a good student before col-lege? Which were you; teacher’s pet or prankster? I was a little bit of both!! I always got the good grades, but I was the chatter-box/social butterfly of the class usually. So the teachers loved me, and let me get away with running my mouth!!

6. Who has made the biggest impact on your life so far, and why? That’s a hard one!! And everyone would probably say one of their parents, and I’m no different. I would collectively say both of my par-ents have made the biggest impact on my life. Neither having any college or graduate education, they were able to guide me in the right direction and allowed for me to chase my dreams despite them not having that opportunity. They believed in me fully, sometimes even more than I believed in my self. They are indeed the reason why I’m here today!

7. What’s the best piece of advice you

ever got? Just do it!

8. What is the one piece of advice you would give to a young person seeking the medical field, i.e. physician? If it was easy, then everyone would do it. Continue to press forward, even through the rough moments because if you truly want it, you can make it!

9. What are you most thankful for? I’m most thankful for my support system of my fiancé, family and friends. They have been a tremendous help throughout these years!

10. How many siblings do you have and where do you rank? I have an older sister and brother, and I’m the youngest!

11. What’s your favorite song? Prince is BY FAR MY FAVORITE ARTIST OF ALL TIME. And Adore is my favorite song, which is of course by Prince.

12. Do you like to sing karaoke? If so, what is your first choice of the song? I LOVE KARAOKE!! And I always pick a Prince song if I can, because I most likely know it word for word!

13. What is your favorite movie? Do you ever cry at movies? That’s a hard one. I don’t think I have a favorite movie actually. I definitely cry at movies! Put The Notebook on, and the waterfalls start!

14. If Hollywood wanted to make a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you? Angela Bassett is awesome, she would do a great job!

15. If you were a superhero, what would be your name? The Pink Lantern. I always loved the concept of the Green Lantern, so I would be the Pink Lantern since pink is my favorite color!

16. If you could invite any 5 people to dinner, who would you choose? The Presi-

dent and First Lady, Prince, Charlize Theron (I love her!), and Ben Stiller. I know, that would be an interesting dinner!

17. What is your favorite dessert? Brownies are my favorite! Closely followed by pecan pie!

18. What food would you never eat? Sashimi!

19. Do you cook? If so, what is your signature dish? Fried chicken of course. I’m from Memphis! What do you expect?!

20. What would we find in your refrig-erator right now? Greek yogurt, cheese, water, chicken, grapefruit juice… ummm. And miscellaneous leftovers from restaurants from the weekend!

21. What’s the most interesting trip you have ever taken? Why? I’ve never really been out of the country, but Canada was my most inter-esting trip. I was amazed at how CLEAN it was there! I mean, there were no oil spots on the ground at the gas station! I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone!

22. Where would you like to visit that you’ve never been? Would love to go to South America, or to Dubai.

23. On a scale of 1 to 10, how happy are you? I’m usually between an 8-9.5. I’m pretty chipper and even-tempered.

24. What is something about you most people wouldn’t know? Surprisingly, I don’t know how to ride a bike!! I fell off of my bike when I was 7, and was so afraid of defeat that I never rode one again!

25. Do you have a hidden talent? I’m a painter. I actually was a Visual Arts minor in college. And my father and siblings are also artists!

25. Do you have a hidden talent? I can actually play a classical guitar.

Interview with Dr. Schilling

1. When did you decide to be a doctor? During college I worked at a bank and actually consid-ered pursuing that route first, but I was really good in science and people-oriented so I decided to change my direction to medicine. I have never regretted my choice.

2. Why did you choose Ob/Gyn as your specialty? Most patient’s are healthy and I can ac-tually fix their problems. This is a rarity in health care. I, even now, constantly get to learn new techniques and keep my mind challenged. Of course, the biggest reason would have to be bringing the joy of a baby into a fam-ily’s life, this joy will never be forgotten, and I get to be a memory for life, that’s a great privilege and honor that words cannot explain.

3. Do you come from a family of doc-tors? No, my dad was actually a meteorologist for the weather service. Amusingly, when I decided to pursue medicine, my mom and dad said, “But Pat, you’ve never worked at a hospital”.

4. What is your favorite part of being an Ob/Gyn? I love handing over a big beautiful baby to the Mom and Dad and seeing the immeasurable joy on their faces.

5. Were you a good student before col-lege? Which were you; teacher’s pet or prankster? Definitely the good student & teacher’s pet.

6. Who has made the biggest impact on your life so far, and why? I really can’t think of just one name, but I would have to say my patient’s as a group.

7. What’s the best piece of advice you ever got? You can learn something from every patient you ever see & I still find it to be true.

8. What is the one piece of advice you would give to a young person seeking

SO our Doc’s are tricksters too! We asked if them to name one prank they have played on the staff or nurses & here is what they had to say:Dr. Sea: “I played a prank on the postpartum nurses in Houston at my residency program, where we joked that we had delivered triplets and we needed more bassinets in the nursery when the nursery was already filled to capacity! They were trying to find all kinds of old baskets and whatnot from the floor to put these babies in! I even had L and D nurses walk up to postpartum with dolls wrapped up in baby blankets! The nurses were so frantic!! It was hilarious!”

Dr. Schilling: “One time when the hospital was slow, I climbed into a empty laundry basket on one of the nursing floors... the nurses thought they saw something moving in the basket (of course it was me), and as they approached, I popped out of it like a Jack-In-The-Box and scared the living daylights out of them! Well, I can’t repeat their words to me!”
