WILTON – This winter, the Town of Wilton Recreation at Gavin Park is offering the pub-lic another opportunity for winter fun. The Park’s brand new ice skating rink is now open, and all are invited to bring their skates

and head out onto the ice. Gavin Park’s ice skating rink is approximately 100’ long by 70’ wide. It is available for use by skaters of any age and level of experience; however, children twelve years old or younger must be under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian at all times. Since the facility is intended for pleasure skating only, no hockey sticks, pucks, or games of any kind are allowed on the ice. No Nordic speed skates are allowed. The rink is open week-days from 1 – 8 p.m., Saturdays from 12 noon – 8:00 p.m., and Sundays from 12 noon – 6:00 p.m., depending on weather conditions. Stone That Started The RippleSARATOGA SPRINGS - A play dramatizing a modern-day reunion of the suffragists, written by local author Patricia A. Nugent, will be performed on Saturday, January 11 at 7pm in Filene Hall at Skidmore College. The play is un-derwritten by a grant from Soroptimists International of Saratoga County, and proceeds will benefit the League of Women Voters of Saratoga County. Tickets are $10 each. Genealogy and Local HistorySARATOGA SPRINGS - Heritage Hunters of Saratoga Coun-ty will meet on Saturday, January 18th, at 1pm at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, corner of Rt. 4 and Rt. 29 in Schuy-lerville. The speaker will be Tricia Shaw, Education Coordi-nator for the Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site, located along the Erie Canal in Fort Hunter. In 2011, flooding from Hurricane Irene devastated the area, but unearthed a cen-turies-old blockhouse and remains from a Mohawk Indian settlement. Archaeologists spent months exposing founda-tions and collecting 18th century artifacts. Creative Acting for children ages 8-10, instructed by Kate Starczewski. Students learn about theater techniques and how to use their own unique qualities to act. Creative Act-ing meets from 11:15am-12:30pm and costs $65. Scene Study, for ages 11-13, instructed by Kate Starczewski. Stu-dents will work on character development through scripted scene work. WILTON - Gavin Park has a NYS Licensed After School Pro-gram, and it’s still accepting registrations for the current school year. Children, grades K – 5, may be enrolled. The program operates Monday – Friday from 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. Activities include: sports, crafts, group activities, home-work time, and more. A snack and drink will be included each afternoon. Town of Wilton Parent/Tot Gym Play WILTON - Each week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m., Gavin Park offers a way for little ones to make new friends and have fun. From now through April, children, ages 2-4, may use the gym to participate in a variety of games and activities. Included will be opportu-nities to play with the parachute, scooters, sponge balls,

and bean bags, as well as have fun in the tunnel, shoot hoops, and more. Sneakers are mandatory attire. There are no supervisors on duty, so parents must accompany their children at all times. A punch card is required for ad-mission to the program, with one punch utilized for each day that a child attends. Punch cards are available for pur-chase at the park office at a cost of $15. for 5 punches for Wilton residents ($25. for non-residents) or $25. for 10 punches ($35. for non-residents). Parents are admitted for free. Punch cards are non-refundable and, if lost, are not replaceable. All punch cards expire April 25, 2014. Payment must be made by check, VISA, or MasterCard. New Program To Assist Low Income VeteransSARATOGA CO. - Saratoga County RPC, through its VetHelp division, is pleased to announce the start of a new pro-gram to aid veterans and their families in their struggle to maintain permanent housing. The Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program can provide monetary relief as well as extensive case management for veteran families that are homeless or at imminent risk of becom-ing homeless. Temporary financial assistance is available for rental assistance, utilities fees, security deposit, mov-ing costs, emergency supplies, child care and transporta-tion. Case management and referral services include health care, daily living activities, financial planning, transporta-tion, income support and legal assistance. The goal of the SSVF program is to promote housing stability among very low income Veteran families who reside in or are transition-ing to permanent housing in the following New York State counties; Washington, Warren, Saratoga, Schenectady, Montgomery, Fulton and Schoharie.
