• The craft of mirror etching, metal tooling, wood burning, walking sticks, carving, printmaking, and weaving dream catchers will be explored.

• Students will learn about crafts and cultures from around the world and try to recreate their own pieces.

• Students will get the opportunity to complete multiple crafts using a variety of materials like yarn, beads, natural objects, and paper-mâché.

• This class gives students the opportunity to explore their creative side and get crafty.

• Different types of art materials will be explored• A variety of drawing and painting techniques will be used. • Students will use these techniques to create animal, face, Pop

Art candy paintings, self portraits and cartoon drawings. • Sketchbooks will be used for weekly Friday drawings. • Acrylic paint will be used to complete a mini canvas painting

and a larger one near the end of the semester. A variety of art styles and artists will also be studied.

• Explore your creative side by learning how to turn mud (clay) into a meaningful piece of art!!!

• Students will learn the basic hand building skills needed to create pinch, slab and coil pottery.

• Students will be given a project idea and the assignment will be to use creative thinking to transform the project into something unique that reflects their own personal style.

• Using the elements of art and principles of design as a guide, students will learn to produce quality ceramic pieces like face pots, candle boxes with lids, vases, birdhouses, and wall decor.

• Come along and join the fun learning about children of various ages.

• Experience what it’s like to have responsibility of a child by caring for a “Real Care Baby”. These are computerized babies that need to be fed, changed, and rocked.

• Students will create activities to be used during a childcare experience here at the middle school!

• Students will look at self-image and learn how they can improve their self-esteem.

• Teen issues such as living in a single parent family, getting along with parents, siblings, and friends, and dating relationships will be covered.

challenge themselves in many ways. Outdoor proper clothing is important.

• Outside activities include rappelling off the roof,compass use, map reading, zip line, rope course.

• We will also cover a survival unit, which includes fire building.

• Indoor activities include: knots tieing, wall climb, rappel, completing a candle and a bird feeder.

• We also research the legendary timber wolf. • The textbook used is the National Outdoor Leadership

•In this class, students will research and. study the technology and the science we will need to travel to the stars while maintaining earth at home and other technology the near and far future may bring. Topics to be covered include, but are not limited to: Space Travel, Clean Energy, Time Travel and living on other planets.

8th Grade • French I is a high school class for students who wish to begin the in-depth study of the French language and culture.

• Upon successful completion, students can continue with French II at the high school, possibly through level V (A.P.)

• Students will build French vocabulary through story-telling, speaking, spelling, reading, writing, grammar, and culture. The focus is on oral communication and global citizenship.

• Fulfills part of the college entrance requirement for foreign language study.

8th Grade• Spanish I at the middle school: * is a year-long high school course, that counts as one of the two years’ pre-requisite for most colleges.

* allows students to continue to study through Spanish level V (A.P) in their senior year.

• Spanish I is taught through storytelling: * allows students to acquire vocabulary through repetition, and to retell, act out, or draw the stories to show comprehension.

* attendance is crucial. If you are absent, it is difficult to make up what you missed from the in-class activities.

• Spanish I students will study: – Spanish songs, culture, and holidays. – accepting and appreciating diversity in the world.

**Exploratory Spanish is not a pre-requisite for Spanish I.
